This apartment was a nightmare from the time I moved in until, literally, the day I moved out.

I moved in to find a dirty apartment, and one that was not what I had been shown and promised. The apartment had no patio, there were cigarette ashes in the carpet, hair all over the sink and bathtub. I spoke with management, and was told, rudely, that they knew for a fact that housekeeping had been there. Maybe they were, but they clearly didn't clean anything. Refrigerator was missing a tray and another was broken. All of the screens on the windows had large holes in them (reported on the move-in list and never repaired/replaced). The on-site gym, which I had specifically asked about when viewing the apartments, was shut down the day before we moved in. No notification or explanation was given.

Shortly afterwards, the property sold to a different management company, who began a low-income housing program. And with that, the quality of tenants went down drastically.

Children play in the street, unsupervised. Gang members stroll through the parking lots. The common laundry rooms are frequently filthy, not-working, and have had the windows broken out repeatedly. The grounds are littered with trash, to include empty beer bottles, condom wrappers, and cigarrette butts. Noise from stereos is a huge problem. Many of the tenants like to crank up the base and drive through the property.

The Federal money from the low-income program is being used to "spruce up" the outside appearance. New balconies and paint are being done, but nothing is being done for the inside of the apartments. My apartment had water problems. The water heater twice flooded the hallway carpet. Another neighbor told me his apartment had electrical problems, and fried the motherboard on his computer. Upon teling management, he was told to not plug his computer in.

When my lease expired, I went on a month-to-month while I shopped for a new apartment. I was told my rent was being raised by $50 over what I was already paying. I called the office to confirm, which they did say was happening. I told them I'd be moving out in 30 days, and they immediately backed down and changed their minds.

I moved out this past weekend. I tried to do laundry there before I left, but the common laundry room door was locked. I asked management to unlock it, and was told "It is unlocked, you just have to force the door open. Hit it with your shoulder." Then the employee who knew how to force the laundry room door open showed me the office door (thanks for the dismissal).

Don't live at the Arbors.
