horrible quality of living and shifty management

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009

Lived here for over 2 years and 4 months. Our apartment has flooded over a half-dozen times. They will not replace carpet although it smells. They will only pull up the carpet and replace the padding underneath, so we've pretty much lived in the apartment since the spring of 2008 with a moldy smelly in the apartment. The apartment still floods as recently as last month. You know how they "fixed" the problem' I wish I could post the pictures to really illustrate how dumb this looks. They have placed sand bags in the corridor outside,.. yeah, sandbags. They sat them out there over a month ago and just put them in front of the doors. After the rains subside, they just pull them away from the door a little bit and leave them there. It actually looks like we live in a 3rd world country when we walk up to our apartment. How glamorous! Then we get to walk into our apartment and smell all that dirty, yummy mold. They've promised to shampoo the carpet several times,... hasn't happened ever. Another issue that comes up when carpet repeatedly get wet, is that it shrinks. The carpet in the living room is actually shrinking, and the sections are pulling apart in the living area and hallway. Just more of that Barcelona class.
Since we've been here they also decided they would raise our rent by about $100.00 per month and railroad us into sacrificing our closet space so they could put in a stackable washer/dryer set. While putting in the water lines, they tore up the carpet, and the bathroom floor for about a week, and of course when they were done it looked pathetic. They messed up the wall in the bathroom and they didn't stretch the carpet back out right so it looks like a 12 year-old did it.
Another problem area that has consistently been ignored is our hot water heater closet. I cannot even possibly give you a description of what it looks like in there. Mold mold mold mold mold EVERYWHERE. I've often wondered if they could be sued for even having tenants live in conditions like that. This is also another flooding problem area as water starts to accumulate in the closet and starts seeping out into the floor. More of that wholesome moldy smell. Yum.
Parking is a complete joke. If I show up and try to park after 6PM any day of the week, I have nowhere to park unless I drive around the other side of the building 40 yards away. That's fun when your bringing in groceries. What's even cooler about the situation is that it's caused by questionable American citizens, (I'm trying to be politically correct here). There must be 2 or 3 families of immigrants living in each apartment in the building next door. All there cars (and you know you can tell it's a hispanic's car), pack the parking spots, and sometimes they don't move their cars for days.
The lights in front of our building have gone out multiple times and for several days we needed a flash light to get into our apartment. It's scary as hell too. You feel like you could be mugged at anytime.
Do you like breaking up domestic violence in the middle of the night' This place is for you. We gotten up in the middle of the night on two separate occasions and had to call police because our neighbors were assaulting each other, and I've watched two young women come out of their apartments with black eyes, and busted lips, and blood all over there shirts. What a charming place to raise my 8 year-old daughter. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
We turned in our notice last month and let them know we would be leaving. Yay!
I worked third shift last night and got in at about 7:30 and laid down. My wife called and told me that rent was do today. So I jumped up, wrote the check and ran over to the office to pay. The manager Terry told me I had to pay by money order cause I was late and I needed to include another 40 dollars for a late fee. We have never been late period, and we have definitely never written a bad check to them. She said it was just policy. I was under the impression that rent was due on the 5th by 9AM, but they changed it a couple of months ago and moved it up by a day. So I showed up with check in hand 2 hours and 30 minutes late and was charged 40 dollars. All the things that we have put up with around here, we've been courteous to staff, pleasantly asking for things to be fixed and gotten no results, but by God if you're two hours late because they changed the rules on you, YOU ARE SCREWED! This management team is fake fake fake. They are after the bottom line and couldn't give a rats ass about me or anybody else here. I'm hoping to have more success writing this to Case & Assoc. web site.
Look, If you're interested in living here, I'm warning you that it is a bait and switch. They will show you one apartment that is all dolled up and in good repair. Then when you get your keys after you sign that lease you'll go over and see your real apartment. I'm just writing this to look out for all you out there. I suggest you keep looking elsewhere.
There are lots of duplexes and houses for rent on craigslist.org. That's where we found our cute little house. We are incredibly excited to be leaving here. It's been a most unpleasant experience. God bless you all.
