My wife and 6 year old daughter and I moved in to Deerfield in March of 2009. The ladies up front were very nice and kept to their estimates on the price they gave us for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. We even asked for a closed in porch, and got one. However, when we moved in the place was filthy. There were pee spots on the carpet, mold in the shower, etc. We also had trouble with the closet doors in our daughters room. They kept coming off the track. On move in day, they got maintenance to come out right away to fix it. But it wasn't fixed. We called them again and it took two weeks for a maintenance guy to come out. He worked on it, but didn't fix it. This went on and on for 5 months. As they came out, they were careless with my daughters toys, stepping on them and tossing them around. One of them even suggested that we just hang curtains! No way, not for $650 a month!
The doors to the a/c unit also come off the track, and they haven't fixed those either. Also we have drawers in the kitchen that are coming apart, that are taking for ever to get fixed. There have been painters that show up at random and move all of the stuff off of the patio, and we were never notified they were coming. One time we were, but it was two days after they showed up. Our grill got stolen because the painters (whom don't speak a word of english) left it outside of the patio wall. Imagine waking up to some strange guy banging on your back patio door with your tennis racket! It happened to us.
The neighborhood is terrible. We figured it would be ok because of the area (we had lived a mile down the road at Lakewood prior). Nope, there are kids skateboarding around the cars, and loud neighbors across 88th st at Stone Ridge apartments, loud neighbors all around us... it's literally like living in a big dorm room. The people here complain about EVERYTHING!
We are quiet and clean people. We have two small dogs, and I am a dog trainer, so they are well behaved, but most of the neighbors are terrified of them. They are Boston Terriers, not a scary breed. There is a pit bull that lives two doors down from us that hates men, and it belongs to the cleaning lady that works at Deerfield. Also, we have seen roaches here and there, and we've never had roaches. I used to work for Orkin, so I know how to keep bugs out, and we've never ever had roaches before.. we think they are coming from the guy upstairs who seems to have lead feet. We can even hear it every time he pees.. nasty.
The parking is terrible too.. trust me.
I am very serious, not making any of this up... DON'T MOVE TO DEERFIELD!!! It may be cheaper, but you will be better off at Lakewood a mile down the road. There you get a garage and we only had two neighbors. It may be a bit more, but it is worth it! Sorry for the long review, just wanted to be thorough.

I had the same problems when I was there. I think I may have lived in the bldg you live in b/c I lived by the cleaning lady and her pitbull. We fought with the roaches the entire time. We now live a Lakewood and are a 100% happy.

Lakewood is awesome, wish we never would have moved from there, but the rent was so expensive.
