Mostly, I'm satisfied with my experience at this complex. There are FOUR things that I would warn potential residents about though: noise and laundry.
1.) Noise is the biggest problem in this community. The walls seem as if they are paper-thin. I don't know whether my neighbors slam their doors because they're angry or because their door didn't close on the first---and only---civilized try (which may have been back when they had just moved in.) It also seems as if they have a dartboard set up on the shared wall, since I can't hear myself think sometimes because of the constant tap, tap, tap, on the wall.
I have not brought the matter up to the management team because they obviously can't control whether or not my neighbors slam their door or put up a dartboard in their apartment----unless they somehow came up with some sort of "no fixtures/furniture allowed along the common wall" rule. Not that the management team WOULD do anything, judging from the other reviews I've read. I also don't want to create any sort of animosity with my neighbors, lest they take it upon themselves to show me what "real noisy neighbors" are like out of spite.
You can hear the bathroom fans and pipes from other apartment homes. I don't remember this being a problem at other communities I've lived at, and think this is due to the same paper-thin wall issue.
2.) Laundry is the second thing I have issue with--if you don't have your own set of machines, make sure you have PLENTY of money to pour into your laundry, and that you have time DURING THE DAY to do it. The machines aren't coin operated, which is what I'm used to. They take little cards that you have to put money into via a machine. This wouldn't be a problem if the machine wasn't LOCKED inside the office when they're closed. The laundry machines are tiny and with limited features; the card machine doesn't take one dollar bills.
EDIT: 3.) The exercise room! I recently decided to try it out. I was sad to find that the elliptical machine in this room squeaks and is generally an accident waiting to happen. It saddens me to think that the staff has either not had any complaints about it, or has not contacted the higher ups to get a budget review in order to replace this machine. I did use one of the other machines, a stationary bike, and that one seemed fine. It's just kind of pathetic that the elliptical machine is one of the most popular amongst women and the ONE elliptical in that workout room is subpar, to say the least. No wonder I see mostly men in that room! I thought about contacting Newport Properties directly, but...
4.) They are impossible to reach. This makes me so nervous. In other commercial settings, when the sales clerk doesn't address the customer's problem, you can ask for the manager. When the manager doesn't address the customer's problem, you can ask for THEIR supervisor. And so on and so forth until, in most cases, you can contact the owner or the person ultimately responsible for your satisfaction. At Galleria, you either talk to the managers on-site, or you don't talk to anybody. This is a huge let-down, considering that I know there are certain things my manager will not be able to help me with while I live here. I do NOT like the lack of accessibility to the property owners. What a disappointment.
The good things about this apartment complex'
1.) GREAT maintenance team: including inside your apartment and outside--- the complex is always clean. They are friendly and always say hello!
2.) HBO included in your rent
3.) so far, as far as I am concerned, friendly staff--they live here, so that's a good sign (hopefully they are aware of problems and are working to get Newport to figure something out! maybe one of them will get a noisy neighbor one of these days and can come up with a good solution!)
4.) parking/gates could use some attention, but for the most part are good (if you have a nice car, make sure you have good theft/vandalism insurance---since the gates on one side of the complex end up having issues ALL the time)
5.)inside the apartments are actually quite nice, tasteful
EDIT***6.) beautiful and very well-maintained pools
I think aside from potentially going insane because of the noise (my sleep is disturbed sometimes because of it), I am getting my money's worth at this place. The inability to contact the property owners severely upsets me. Therefore I awarded Galleria with a three-star rating of "Average compared to others." Hopefully, someone important is reading these reviews. At the very least, I hope to help someone who is considering moving here. The bad things aren't so bad, I guess, if you know about them ahead of time.
