When I first moved in in 2004 it was a luxury apartment complex. Great place to live. 10 O'clock curfew. Before I left in 2008 they started letting ANYONE move in. It was at this point I saw 5 cars broken into and nearly had to kill a drunk mexican american who tried to break into my apartment.
I would say save your money and get a house.

I'm not saying that I am saying that as area's decline in income levels and class that crime and violence increase. Purchased homes are as vulnerable as you let them become, but a high quality, high priced, SECURE, and affluent residenced complex has less issues with violence and crime.
