Nice apartment lay out and a top notch fitness center. That is what sold me on the complex. However, I would tell anyone considering these apartments to look else where. I would never in a million years recommend this complex or any other for that fact if they are locked into a service contract with SBC. The only television and broad band internet services available here is SBC DSL (for internet) and SBC Direct TV (that?s right, no cable).
My experience with the DSL has been horrendous; I pay twice what I paid for cable broadband and do not receive nearly the speed. After waiting over 3 weeks to get it installed, the modem went bad after just one week. I then waited another week waiting for a service person to come and replace the modem since there is no local office (like Cox cable has), in which I could take the modem and replace it myself. When the service person did arrive he simply re-affirmed what they had all ready told me on the phone, ?yes it is a bad modem? and then informed me that they don?t carry them on their truck and he would order me another one. ?Be here in about a week? he said. Then to add insult to injury, I was then informed that it was my responsibility to box up the defective modem they had just installed in my home and that sometime after they receive it, they would then credit the $160 they charged me back to my account. Of course until then I was still expected to pay the $320 on my 1st bill for both the defective modem and the one they just replaced it with. That did not include the installation charge for the wonderful service that I had received.
That brings us to ?SBC Direct TV?, unlike every other Direct TV distributor in the nation, SBC does not only not offer TeVo (PVR) but even if you buy it on your own and pay for the service separately, it will still not work with their system. Nor do they honor any of the advertised specials that any other Direct TV distributors offer. It was only after I moved in that I found out the worst feature of the SBC monopoly at Memorial Creek; they do not offer any of the local channels. To watch local programming you have to turn of the Direct TV system and use the TV tuner that is attached to an antenna feeding the entire apartment complex. This provides not only sub-standard reception but you also do not have the programming guide feature that comes with the Direct TV system. It also struck me as somewhat suspicious that the girl in the leasing office (whom was also my leasing agent) seemed to no nothing about the fact that SBC did not provide local channels. If that is all not bad enough, try to get a hold of someone at SBC Home Entertainment. I spent 1 hour 25 Minutes trying to up grade my movie package one afternoon before I finally got tiered of music on hold and hung up. Now if I want to watch a movie I go to Block Buster.
