Let's see - what didn't go wrong. The fights, vandalism, lack of maintenance, management losing rent payments. But the worst thing was...My roommate & I started moving out 3 weeks before our lease was up, but had given notice & set up a date to do our walk-thru once our lease actually expired. SOMEONE entered our apartment & cleaned out what things were left (stuff in the fridge, misc pantry items, some dishes, shower curtains, etc), cleaned the carpet, turned the AC down in 65 & fixed stuff that we'd requested to be done when we moved in. When we confronted the manager about it (in person, because she never returned our phone calls), she told us that it "could have been her staff," and to call the police because someone had broken into our apartment. She also said that we'd still be responsible for the rent until the lease was up. So...we called the police & the cop laughed in her face. We never did get an apology or an admission of guilt, but we didn't pay rent & we got back our security deposit.
