Not Sure What to Say - Mixed BUT Truthful

Years at this apartment: 2006-01-01 - 2006-01-01
I moved into Riverchase at the end of October.
The staff was really helpful as I had to quickly move from out of town due to work in Tulsa.
A slight complaint would have to be that my application sat around for a few days after I was asked to overnight it with a check.
Also, and I know these things can happen, but the office failed to credit my account for the move in special.
On the 5th I had a notice to vacate on my door for failing to pay the entire rent.
It was resolved fairly smoothly though.
Lucky for me I had a girlfriend who could handle going to the office for me since my work would not allow to ever make it.
My biggest concern was ensuring it did not end up on my credit report.
Now, to the apartment.
Granted I knew these apartments were older, but there are quite a few general upkeep items I assumed would be handled before my moving in, including those they promised to.
I could go room by room with the issues, but the major gripe for me is the kitchen.
Most of the drawers in the kitchen have no track left so they have to be opened slowly and carefully so they do not fall out.
The sink is in dire need of refinishing.
There are cigarette burns on one countertop.
A chunk of the plastic on the inside of the microwave door is broken or melted.
There is very, VERY little storage space to the point I had to purchase some shelves for the laundry area just so I could stock a normal weeks worth of food.
Other rooms I found to have very loose outlets which I had to have replaced.
It was done timely though.
I don't see how the previous tenant did not find issue with this as you couldn't dry your hair in either bathroom.
There is also a lack of outlets and phone jacks in general as I had issue finding an area to hook my DSL modem and wireless router up.
Looks a little silly on the bedroom nightstand, but that's the best I could do.
I had been promised tile in the front entry before I moved in, but that didn't happen.
The guy did come and lay the tile, but I am left with the carpet still on top of it because the person handling that part of the job felt there were two pieces of furniture in his way he wanted moved which I have yet to have time to do yet since they are full of items.
The walls are pretty thin because you can hear your neighbor take a shower or use their kitchen sink.
It's not too bad though and something I expect in apartment living.
The apartment I have also has poor access to the interior parking lot so I am forced to park on the street.
I've already been hit once which appears to be an accident as I had to take a second look but know it happened since I moved in.
For the most part, everyone seems to take their fair share so we can all park conveniently to our door.
My neighbors, while not knowing them by name, are all very quiet and keep to themselves.
The only noise I hear is generally on the weekends from upstairs which sounds like they are watching a sporting event.
It's never noisy after midnight.
While they can't control the mail here, having mail sent out is a big issue.
There is not an outgoing slot or box so you are left to either use a clip on top of the boxes or take it yourself.
I had a letter attempted to be sent to me by my previous landlord that was certified that I could never get the carrier to redeliver after leaving the signed card in the box for a number of days assuming the idiot would pick it up.
It finally took me taping it to the front of the box with a sarcastic "Take Me, Redeliver Me" note he ignored.
If I knew his last name I'd complain.
Overall, I do not feel scared at Riverchase.
My lease is only for 9 months at which point I will move, but at this point that is merely because I do not have enough room for all my stuff.
Storage on the backporch would be nice, but that is where the furnace is.
Yes, I have heard the rape/murder stories, but I believe that to be anywhere you live in a metro area.
The apartments in the back of the complex do look a bit more rundown, but I never go back there.
Thankfully I was going to be back that way, but the staff found me my apartment because, as they put it, thought "I'd like it better than the one shown."
Do the research and take a good look before signing.
Remember, crime is everywhere as I've lived from as far east as South Carolina and also in Dallas so you just have to use a little common sense.
I feel Riverchase is OK and a decent value for my renting dollars for now.
