I'm a single woman, and I've not had a bunch of problems here. Maintenance comes out and fixes stuff normally the same day unless it's close to the end of the day and they'll usually come out the next day, which you are informed of. Staff has changed off and on since I've been here, but they've all been unfailingly kind, helpful, and friendly. And because it's a fairly small complex (220 units'), they tend to know you, which is kind of nice. It does give you that nice homey feeling. Also, my apartment was CLEAN when I moved in, probably the cleanest apartment I've ever moved into. And the apartments are not all run-down, either inside or out.
The apartment has been quiet for me, you can hear people talking outside but most people keep to themselves so you're not hearing it all night or day for hours on end. Just the general "Hi, how are you" chitchat. Phone reception seems to be good as well as you don't hear people outside on their cellphones all day. Strangely enough, I don't hear others in their apartments when I'm in mine, just the people outside occasionally. Even with my door and window open and my music up a little loud one day, my friend couldn't hear it from outside. And people tend to do their own thing in here for the most part and keep to themselves overall.
I've never had any problem with crime or my car being broken into or things like that. I tend to know the cars around my apartment as well, and know who's who and what's what. I don't see strange people walking through the complex at night or picking through the trash. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they've fixed up The Legacy next door as most of us were kind of wary of the people over there.
Parking can be a little tight, as in you might have a hard time getting groceries out of your car unless you put them in the trunk and possible door dings. As well, I think cars can tell you a lot about a complex, you won't see Mercedes in here, but you won't see junkers either. Middle class cars if I had to say. Also, you don't hear fire engines or ambulances going by all day.
Age demographic seemed to be 20-30 or so overall although as of late, they've gotten a few more older people (40 ) which to me is all to the good, quiet. And strangely enough, even though the demographic has been fairly young, there aren't wild, noisy parties here. I haven't heard one yet in all the time I've been here.
The pool is quite relaxing and very pretty, especially in the mornings from 10 am till 3-5pm-ish. Tends to be pretty much empty, maybe one or two quiet sunbathers. There is the water volleyball on weekends, and they drink a bit of beer and bbq, but they take frequent breaks so you can get a swim in. Courteous partiers, you might say, and makes for a little liveliness if you're in the mood for that.
Great location as well, you're in easy reach of everything. Groceries at Wal-Mart on Peoria, close to colleges, downtown businesses, Riverside Drive is an easy way to get around, highway entrance just down it on 51st or so. Easy to get across Riverside now as well, since they put the light in at 31st and Riverside, whether you're in your car at rush hour or just wanting to take a walk at the Riverparks. Nice for the 4th of July fireworks too, no need to find a parking place!
I've got a 1 bedroom/1 bath (not the studio) and one of the best things about it is the large pantry for food and the large linen closet in the bathroom. I've looked at other apartments and they seem to be lacking that. A nice decent-sized hall closet as well. Kitchen is big enough I'm not bumping my butt on the cupboards behind me when I open the fridge. No bug problems either. Good-sized walk-in closet is also a plus with a light so you can see all your clothes and aren't digging around in the dark in there. Also I have a window and a sliding glass door, which lets in plenty of light so I don't feel like I'm living in a cave. My bedroom and living room are a very good size too. Oh, and I've NEVER run out of hot water while taking a shower, and you get a decent shower spray too. The heat lamp in the bathroom is a nice touch, as is the icemaker in the refrigerator. Mailboxes are in the entrances to your building and covered, so no getting your mail in the snow or ice.
There are some downsides however, there is gas heat and a gas stove. With gas going up, that doesn't help. The studios are all electric however. You have to pay water, my bill has always been 20 dollars and some cents. You also have to pay for electric of course which is about fair, not great, not terrible. The parking is narrow, but at least I can always find a spot. Sometimes a little farther away if it's after 5 pm, but during the day the parking lot is pretty empty. There's no washers and dryers, but the laundromat is clean, well-lit, and gets the job done (i.e. your towels are going to be dry). And there's enough washers and dryers that I've never been stuck waiting.
The grounds are rather pretty and there is easily enough lighting in the parking lot and all the way to your apartment that I've never even thought about it as it hasn't been a problem. People have small dogs and cats in here, but there isn't poop all over.
There just aren't a lot of downsides to living here. It's been clean, quiet, pretty, convenient, and safe for me. Other than the close parking spaces and the gas stove/heat, that's about all I can complain about. And that's not much at all when you're living in an apartment.
