Decent place to live

I lived at Westport for a year and would have lived there longer but I got transfered to a different state. The office staff was unbelievably helpful, and so was the maintenance staff. One time I stopped by the office to report a maintenance problem, and by the time I walked back to my apartment, there was already somebody there fixing it. The apartments are attractive with nice-looking ceiling fans, cupboards, and other fixtures. The best part was the unobstructed view of the Tulsa skyline at night. The apartment is convenient to two of the major freeways passing through Tulsa and is right off the river trail (a walking/jogging/rollerblading trail that runs for several miles along the Arkansas River). For those that like parties, the city throws lots of big festivals in a park adjacent to the apartments.

There are a couple of drawbacks. Yes, it?s in the bad part of town, and I?ve been told it can be scary wandering around that part of town alone at night. Of course, it can be scary wandering around any town alone at night anymore, and Tulsa is no different. I (a single woman living alone) never felt threatened or afraid. My apartment was never robbed, my car was never robbed, and I walked along the river trail every morning with nothing bad happening to me.

Westport also isn?t convenient to any grocery stores, libraries, schools, or anything else except downtown. If you don?t want to pay extra for an assigned covered parking spot, you have to fight for a spot along with the other six million residents and all their friends (and anyone going to parties at the river parks since the whole city knows the code to get in the gate).

The apartments also tend to get noisy. The stairs to the upstairs apartments are built right on the outside of the downstairs bedroom wall, so when people came in late or left early it always woke me up. And I could always hear the people upstairs moving from room to room (they weren?t even exceptionally noisy people). The complex also seemed to have lots of rules: you couldn?t have certain things on your porch, you couldn?t put foil or dark paper on the windows, etc. But for the most part, it was a great place to live.
