I've been waiting for this...

I've been waiting to write this review since the day I moved in. At first I thought the place was great, close to downtown, right off the highway, right on the river. When I moved in I was disappointed with the appliances; they were fairly old had some inconsistencies: the oven temperature never seemed right sometimes I would have to cut cooking time by up to a third on some dishes or they would come out badly burnt, the dryer (which was replaced after the motor died) seemed to have weird temperature variations, and the water in the sink would just randomly shut off.

I lived in a unit that faced that was at the end of the parking lot, this meant that I had a bright light constantly shining against my window. While I appreciate the light for its illusion of safety it provided in the parking lot, I hated that it shone through my closed blinds into my window. My solution was to get some aluminum foil to place outside of my blinds, but I soon found out that it was against the lease agreement.

Windows brings me to my next point. People try to tell you that you'll get used to it - my ex-roommate even denied it was there - but you have to remember that you are living right next to a functioning refinery. It stinks. It stinks it winter, it stinks in summer, it stinks in the morning and it stinks at night. I love having windows open and having the breeze come through my house. Well I tried it twice and couldn't stand it.

Pros:
Rent - the rent was fairly cheap
Workout facility - I usually went late at night and would have the place to myself
Disc Golf Course
Close to Oktoberfest and Fourth of July Celebration

Cons:
You're "close" to everything but you're not really close to anything - it takes 10-15 minutes to get to Brookside, 10 minutes to get to Blue Dome District or Cain's, your nearest grocery store is at 15th and Lewis and your fast food options are a bad McDonald's and a bad Sonic.
Office staff - Whenever you stop in for something, whether it be to get a package or report something they act like you just ruined their day.
Parking Lot - the lot needs to be resurfaced
My countertop wasn't level
Gates - Sometimes they work sometimes they are wide open

Plus everything else already mentioned.

if you do decide to live here, some helpful hints/suggestions:

The air filters in the air/heat are 30 day filters - but they don't tell you this or come and replace them, you have to call them to come out.
Buy a Brita or Pur water filter
Bug spray
Pray you don't live above someone who smokes or your whole apartment will have a stale smoke smell
Ask to see the inside of YOUR apartment before you move in

Funny, you say all those things. I've have lived here twice, 1996 to 2001 and then moved back in here in 2006. I agree with the old appliances though, the microwave in this apartment has seen better days as it is the knob control type which means it is old and sometimes doesn't work great. I've never seen a roach in my apartment, but then I keep my apartment clean, trash emptied, etc. I received written notification yesterday that maintenance would be out today to change my air filter, check my water heater and smoke alarm, which they did. Before I moved into this apartment, I had to wait while they put in new carpet and painted it throughout. They said it was due to the prior renter smoked and the carpet and walls, the whole place smelled like smoke. It was Westports idea to do all this, not mine. When I call maintenance they are usually out the same day or very next day. The few times I've had to call security (one time because some jerk had parked in my covered parking spot which I pay $25 a month extra and then another time some idiots above my balcony were shooting off roman candles), the security has called me back quickly and took care of the situation (they had the jerk's car towed off..ha ha). The office staff seems nice I would have preferred different colors than what they painted the exterior of the apartments, but at least they got painted. The parking lot has been the pits due to the Dec. 2007 ice storm and just normal wear and tear over the years, but they have been working on the pot holes, etc. 10-15 minutes to get somewhere in a city the size of Tulsa is not long, so I don't understand your griping. I hope you never move to Denver, Houston, CA, etc. The gates have always been a problem, both times I've lived here. I think they need to be replaced by some sort of other gate. But with the fencing being low and the east side of the complex open to the River Parks, anyone has access. My countertops were painted instead of replaced, which I think is totally silly. True to form the paint is coming off. If the counters were never used, painting would maybe be ok, but with cooking, etc. replacing countertops would make more sense. Overall, I love living here, the view is great. Apartments are roomy, nice storage, quite a bit of cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom for the size of my apartment and it is wonderful having a washer and dryer. No place will ever be perfect. Even when looking to buy a home, you will always find fault with some things. Life is not perfect.
