I went to co-sign a lease for my little sister today. She is young and just starting off. Consequently, I was hoping to help her build her credit and support her independence through avenue. As we were signing the lease I asked what was taken into consideration when releasing an apartment (e.g. credit, rental history, employment). The lady couldn t answer. I then asked if I could be removed from the lease after six months. She responded, it depends. I asked what it depended on; again I got a vague, at best, answer. Right then I decided I did not want to do business with these people and asked to cancel the contract. The lady flipped! She said I was asking stupid questions and wondered why I wouldn t agree to live there. I have credit score of 775, own my home in Maple Ridge, have a business degree from TU, and I m asking stupid questions'!'! I immediately asked for my money and wanted the contract voided. She called another employee over and finally that guy agreed to have the lady shred the contract. We left without the $260. They asked that we speak to the manager to get the money back. As of this writing, I ve decided to donate those $260 to that company; I will never step foot in the Yacht Club.
