not bad, but needs a lot of work

My fiance and I moved from Colorado to Oregon and needed a place to live. Wed heard good things about Equity and Woodcreek looked like a nice place to live based on their website, so we had numerous phone calls back and forth with the Woodcreek people for several months before the big move. We arrived in Oregon and had all the papers ready to sign as soon as we got to the office. We got a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment and paid $594 per month.

The apartment was not in wonderful shape. The sliding glass door on our balcony did not open. The vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms was badly done and curling on the sides. Other residents told us that the previous tenants had a cat and never emptied its litterbox - that explained why the hall closet had an overwhelming stench of cat urine. We had two cars but only one assigned parking place; it was almost impossible to find a spot to park car #2. And when it was parked, I was always scared someone was going to break into it.

We saw people diving in the dumpsters and eating food from inside. We heard about someone?s pit bull (which were not allowed, according to everything we read and signed when we got our own dog, a retriever/hound mix) attacking another resident and management not doing anything. We found dog poop everywhere, even though we always scooped up after our own dog. I was afraid to walk around at night, even with our dog, because there would be little groups of people standing around and just kind of staring at everyone.

The lawns were constantly flooded, the fountains were either broken or full of soap, and kids ran wild all over the place. People moved and "forgot" their cats, which then invaded other peoples apartments and crapped on cars in the parking lot. And some of these cats were not fixed, which resulted in lots of little kittens all over the place, and nobody to care for them.

It also really annoyed me that my fiance and I paid the same amount for water and trash service as the families with 10 people.

But there were some good things. Maintenance was very quick to respond when there was a problem. Rent was cheap, which was a godsend as we were looking for jobs.

We moved out before our lease was up, taking advantage of Equity?s relocation deal (back to Colorado because my mother is extremely sick), and they tried to charge us $1000 for lease breaking even though we did sign a lease at the new apartment. Lots of phone calls and hassling the corporate offices fixed that... if they do this to you, be persistent and call them at least once a day. Our "representative" called us once, ever, and the rest of the times we talked it was because we kept calling and leaving messages and eventually were fortunate enough to reach her while she was actually *in* her office.

Woodcreek is not a terrible place to live, but they really need some work.
