Ok at best, but probably should avoid

Let me first just say that I work for a remodeling company and we primarily remodel apartment complexes. This means that we also have our own leasing side. I deal with residents and maintenance, as well as the construction side of things on a daily basis.
Pros: The location was good for us. Seemed like a good bargain.
Cons:
Noise - I think what mostly contributed to the noise is old buildings. They seem to be poorly insulated. I can hear people in other units caughing, turning on faucets, cabinets opening and closing, etc. Especially during the summer with everyone's window open and the way the property is designed you can hear everything even more. Make sure you turn off your lights or close your blinds before you change or something because you'll have 6 different families that will be able to see right into your bedroom if you don't.
Parking - Most of us have roommates, families, etc. which means that there's usually more than one car per unit. If you get home later in the evening, good luck finding parking if your reserved space is already occupied. Traffic during the day in the parking lot is nuts. It hardly ever fails that there are people parked on the red curb with hazard lights on because they don't want to just park in their space. There are kids out in the parking lot playing everywhere. People speeding through should keep that in mind. It's a big busy place.
The Unit - Again, it looks like an old building that was remodeled at some point, and the craftsmanship is ok at best. When we first moved in, there was a circuit not working, and an awful smell coming from beneath the sink (like rotting wood). We asked about it when we first moved in but we ended up putting up with the funny/bad smells through our 1 year lease.
Trash - There is one place to throw away trash in the entire complex. Sometimes I've found it so full that trash is piling up out of the compactor and just about clear out in the parking lot. There have been times I've taken the initiative myself to throw trash in the compactor that for some reason people can't quite seem to get their trash to make it all the way in. My current complex is a third of the size and we have 3 places to take our trash and recycling.
Misc - The lighting is not the best. It kind of reminds me of a ghetto or something. I feel like there's always someone lurking in the shadows. I have a friend who is a police officer that knows about Country Gables, and warned us when we moved in. He's had lots of dealings with residents in there on his patrols. On top of that, he lived there for a little while in between selling and buying a new home. Cars get broken into, my neighbor's car (and also my co-worker) was keyed, and there is sometimes just seemingly shady activity going on (could the section 8 housing be contributing'). Anyone who has lived there knows what I'm saying. My neighbor/co-worker has also mentioned the possibility of breaking her lease, on top of being promised an apartment with vaulted ceilings that she did not receive (management told her about the change at the paper signing on move in day).
My moving in/out experience - Moving in went smoothly. I think there was different management at the time of my move in. Things seemed a little more flexible and easy to work with. When I first spoke with the management towards the end of my lease, I had asked if they would be willing to work with me on moving out two weeks early with a full or partial break in fees. I received a flat out no. I mean common, I gave them an entire year, and they couldn't work with me over a week or two. My notice was for the 10th, and I was out very late the night of the 9th. We left our keys niceley presented on the counter of the apartment (as I've done in the past). I got a call almost a week later from them asking me why I had still not moved out, and I was charged nearly another $200 for days that I did not live there. My neighbor/co-worker saw with her own eyes a maintenance person go up to my apartment on the day I was to be out. They knew I was gone. I'm still trying to determine for certain if that person entered my apartment (if they did that would be unauthorized entry). If they are going to charge me for days that they say I still technically lived there, then they have no right to enter the apartment, and by law they owe me double rent if they did enter. This case is still yet to be determined, but I am going into their office to speak with them face to face about this. I understand that we may have been in error regarding a technically of the moving out procedure, but as I said, there's no flexibility. It seems pretty cut and dry with the management. They again weren't willing to work with me and it made me feel taken advantage of.
So there you have it. My experience with Country Gables. In my company, we work with our residents, and our motto is putting residents first.
