Pros:
HUGE Space
Great location, near train stop and major bus stop. Walking distance to natural food grocery and shopping mall.
Cons:
Management is frequently unavailable, Posted hours are Monday, Wend, Friday, but not even there during those times.
Windows leak air badly, causing extremely high heating bills (doubles during the three winter months,) Management had promised to get it fixed the last three summers. Instead they are working on replacing the siding this year. When we complained about this last year and asked to have weather stripping installed, the maintenance guy refused to do so. We did it ourselves, but it didn't really help. In addition mold is growing where condensation comes in via the windows.
Lights in hallway are constantly of.
Neighbors are pot smokers, which isn't a big deal, but it comes into our place even with all the doors and windows closed
Ants live below the house, along with Racoons and cats.
Neighborhood crime rate is extremely bad
Solicitors are constantly coming to door despite posted signs.
Neighbors throw parties until late at night, complaints to management do nothing.
Carpets need to be replaced, and even management agrees, but we have to pay to move into another apartment to get it done.
Kitchen cabinets are not flush with the roof and walls so feel insecure.
Years of painting over EVERYTHING has left large ugly bumps all over the walls. The painters have been very sloppy too, leaving paint on the carpets and hardwood floors.
Repairs are done if they're something simple, but it's almost always a stop gap or temporary fix that becomes permanent.
We've been promised a new water heater for the last three years as it has two settings 5 minutes of really hot water, or 10 minutes of kinda warm water. The fix is to turn it up (or down) the other way.
Baseboard heaters in living room are falling off the wall, won't be replaced/fixed.
Claims to be the cheapest around, yet the place next door rents for $100 less.
Strict rules about what is allowed on patio, but they're not enforced.
Water/sewer is a separate charge based on the number of occupants in each apartment, not based on actual usage. Which adds another 30-40 per month to bills.
If it wasn't for the windows, this would be a tolerable apartment. But 45 degrees in the house in the winter with the heaters turned all the way up is not appropriate. They're so bad that fully closed and on the other side of the room, people talking outside can clearly be heard.
I'm hoping that they see the extent of the water damage under the windows when replacing the siding, but probably they'll just cover it up.
