Landlords Lack Moral Responsibility

I've lived here for quite a while and recently, after a management change, cannot bear to be here anymore. The apartments are extremely crime ridden and the management states that they feel they bear no responsibility to take any preventative/proactive measures to increase the safety of their residents. I am a female living alone and recently have had somebody attempt to open my front door in the middle of the night and on another occasion found my peep hole had been unscrewed leaving a clear view of my apartment. After informing management of these occurances and many others, I asked to be released from my lease agreement because I cannot afford the $1,000 buyout fee and they said too bad that I would just have to live there until something worse happened and I could take legal action. Contractually they are correct, but just to warn other single female, you do not want to live there alone! Management does not monitor or prevent crime in the community. Not to mention...the garbage constantly piling up, screaming children (some in diapers) playing unattended in the parking lots, noise level in general, cops there every week...I could go on and on.
Just a follow up to this...Since my review, they have agreed to attend some management training/apartment safety classes. Sounds good, right' Wrong! They are also threatening to sue me for slander and economic damages. They are real nice people.
