The Good:
The location works for me with it's proximity to the MAX and shopping areas. The Manager is friendly and accommodating, and I was able to move in efficiently. The rent is cheap, and without the hassle of income restrictions. The floors and walls are more solid and insulating than at my last place (which was a nightmare by comparison). Some noise bleeds through, but nothing too disturbing. Also missing are the shady residents milling about at my previous complex, which is surprising given the very reasonable rents. There's a park about a hundred yards away, and the duck pond adds a touch of natural serenity that complements the rest of the grounds. No Deposit for me, and month-to-month terms; so, if I get the urge to move downtown or someplace bigger, it's only 30 days notice away.
The Bad:
The $200 move-in fee was unexpected, but my rent's $170 less per month so I shrugged it off. Still, most apartment complexes will incentivize your move-in with discounts, and the contrast was unwelcome. The outside corridor setup (with the doors in two rows, facing each other) isn't my favorite, as I prefer a more private entry area. With a residential neighborhood nearby, part of the complex backs up to backyards where hooligans can be loud without fear from the management. My first night I was treated to the midnight sounds of a sixteen year-old violently retching beneath my window, with the ugliest form of radio rap (not hip-hop, mind you)bassing away in the background. Lovely.
On balance, I'd give Gardenbrook a high recommendation, with price and location as my primary considerations. BuLYzGcKAVo8MQPlcXJq
