The good....But mainly the bad and the ugly.

First off, for those of you moving from out of state, avoid the town of Beaverton at all costs. It is a horrible, crowded town that does not have anything going for it. Try downtown if you can afford it. The east side of Portland is much more hip as well. But if you must live on the west side, chances are you can do much better than this dump! To be fair, let's start off with the good though:

-The MAX (train) stop is right next to LaSalle so it is well connected if you want to take public transportation. The ride downtown on MAX is about as fast as taking a car when it is all said and done and arguably cheaper. MAX runs until around 1:30 in the morning so it isnt too bad to use it to go out for a night on the town in downtown Portland. Commuting is a breeze.

-Town homes are huge. I can't speak for the other apartments in this complex but the townhouse style apartments provide more than enough space for two people. A garage is included in them as well.

-Pool and common areas are nice and well kept. Also the workout rooms were not bad either but there was nothing to make them standout from other apartment complexes really.

The bad:

-Nosey management. They were constantly coming into our apartment for various "maintenance" reasons. We were never told an exact time but rather given a window of about 3 days that they would be in there to do whatever it was that they were doing (whatever they were doing was always very vague as well).

-Nothing to do. As I said earlier, it's not like Beaverton has much to offer, but there is nothing around LaSalle (stores, restaurants, bars, etc). Maybe this has changed since I moved out of there but I'm guessing not since all of the available space around the area is taken up by Nike. Expect to drive anywhere you want to go since there is nothing that is located "around the corner". Like Beaverton itself, LaSalle is also a rather soul-less place to live. There is no real sense of a community there, and the apartments themselves are pretty bland on the inside.

-No parking. If you don't have a garage or you have friends coming to visit, you (or they) get the shaft. Parking spots are always full and are not conveniently located to many of the apartments that could use them. Unless you get a town house expect to pay big money if you want assigned parking. Tell your friends that they will need to find a shuttle bus or taxi to get from where they parked to your apartment.

-No lights in the bedrooms. Seems like it would be pretty simple to put a light in the ceiling fan. I was told by management that I needed to buy the light attachment for the fan for around $120.

-Cheaply constructed apartments. These places were thrown up in a day, and probably won't last much longer. Expect some very thin walls and neighbors that feel like they are in your living room rather than their own.

The ugly:

-Too many noisy neighbors! LaSalle is densely packed so expect a lot of activity at all hours of the day and night. I dont think I ever saw the security officer once to disperse any of the suspicious activity that goes on at night. However, he was always quick to kick me out of the pool/hot tub 20 minutes before it actually closed. Probably so he could go take a nap. As an added bonus, transients like to hang out in the forest by the MAX stop so you will have a few unwanted people loitering around the complex and occasionally causing problems. Even though there is actually a police office about a 1/4 mile away, the cops seem to turn a blind eye to this activity as well.

-Expect rate hikes and hidden fees after you live there a while. When it came time to renew my lease I was told that my rates would go up by about $200. I was also told that they were going to start charging some miscellaneous fee for garbage. When I asked why, I was just given the excuse that other apartment complexes in the area were doing it so it was perfectly fine for LaSalle to do it as well. (FYI the only other apartments in the area are owned by the same company that owns LaSalle).

-Non-existent management! We never had anything break in our apartment so I can't comment on the maintenance side of things. However, the front office management was horrible. I lost track of how many hours I logged in the waiting room, sitting around for one of the overworked and un-professional staff members around there to answer a simple question. All of the attention that they give you when you walk in there looking for new apartments is just smoke and mirrors to get you to sign the contract.

All and all, I was un-impressed with LaSalle. My roommate and I moved in there thinking that it had a lot of potential (for Beaverton) but we were quickly let down. Stay away unless you like poor customer service, unexpected charges, and a lame place to live.
