The good outweighs the bad

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I've lived at Reflections for 2 years now and it has been a pleasant experience. I enjoy having my own attached garage and private entry/walk-up. I also love the wetland setting and my vaulted ceiling in the living room. I think I really got lucky when I found this place.
There are cons of course, like all apartments. I have neighbors that make silly decisions about noise sometimes. My downstairs neighbor smokes on his porch and it comes in when I open the windows. Can't blame Reflections for that.
The grassy area near my unit has a serious drainage problem, to the point of the lamp post falling over and breaking when it rains. Water is also getting in to the structure of the building near my front door due to a large gap between the door and the floor (3/8" or so). I've mentioned it to management but they seem indifferent. Oh well, it isn't my building that will need repairs that could have been prevented by a $20 door sweeper.
The parking situation stinks but I have my own garage so whatever. I wish the management would enforce the rule in the lease that says you must park your car in your garage since I often see people with giant piles of crap in their garages instead of cars. One guy is apparently restoring a car in his garage and parking another in the lot near it. Also the next guy who parks in the fire zone and blocks my garage is getting towed. Even if he parks there "just for a minute."
The management changed recently and shortly afterward, they painted the exteriors of all the buildings, including the doors. Funny thing about the exterior doors though. They are made of metal and the paint was peeling and chipping off. This is especially bad on south-facing apartments where the door gets a lot of sun, since the dark red paint would soak up the sunlight and the whole door would heat up, causing the paint to peel. So they repainted the doors... black. That was a few months ago and my door is already losing paint.
Other cons about this property would be the proximity to Scholls Ferry Rd. Units back from the road don't get any noise but you have a decent chance of getting an apartment that has a view of the road. My floor creaks when I walk around which I'm sure bugs my downstairs neighbor. I've complained about it and actually knwo how I could fix it but since they don't care I don't care.
The floorplan I have is a little strange (upstairs, 1BR). The living room has a fireplace, which is nice and all, but it leaves little room for an entertainment center. Also the electric heaters are in stupid places in the units (a heater behind where everyone will put their TV' Genius!). There is no dining room to speak of, which is lame. Lots of storage though.
In any case, my lease expires in 60 days and they are raising my rent by a good amount, so this may be my last days at Reflections. You can get a 2BR/1BA for the amount they are changing my rent to (admittedly with no garage though).
