Ok, There is good and bad about this place.
The Good
I previously lived in a high density urban building that had very thin walls. Althougg I can hear my neighbors on occassion, the walls are insulated from a lot of the sound.
The grounds are well maintained. They have ammenities liek a swimming pool, a workout room, and limited free video rentals.
The Bad
Noise! I'm in a unit on the side near the freeway. Nothing to block all that road noise all day and night. Also, I work sometimes until about 4am and often go to sleep around 5:30am. They are very good at maintaining the grounds. So good in fact that they like to start running lawn movers and other equiptment at 6:30am. Nothing like a leaf blower directly outside your windows when you're trying to sleep.
Intrussions! I lived in my last place for about 10 years. I had the landlord inside only a few times when there were problems. In the less than 6 months I've been here, we've had 4 apartment inspections. Doesn't that make you feel comfortable knowing that some strangers are going to enter your home to look around while you are away'
Rules! Heck, I don't even know what all the rules around here are, but I know I get in trouble a lot. Let me preface this by saying I've been a renter for 20 years and never have been scolded for breaking rules. The latest, I was cleaning and had an old box I was going to throw out. I set it on the patio (I'm on the ground level) and used the old box as a trash can while I cleaned. It sat out there for a few hours until the trash was thrown away. A few days later I received a notice on my door that I was in violation. For what' Storage on Deck/Patio (cardboard boxes). Wow! Good thing I don't have a patio chair out there. Funny thing is there are units here with garbage all over their patio.
Attitude! There are so many examples of this I could write several pages. Everything from the manner I was told there was no way what-so-ever that I could get an extra card key to the workout room, to being harassed for having a netflix DVD in my hand after checking my mail because they have DVDs. Sorry hun, you don't have much of a selection and I'd rather not deal. I've noticed that they either give the attitude, or the fake nice. You know, when they smile and say oh I'll help you, but you follow up days later and nothing has been done.
The So So
Parking! It's not terrible, but not great either. I'm in a 3 bedroom unit and have 3 cars in the household, but we were given only one parking spot. There are quite a few unmarked spots that anyone can park in. Becasue of the odd hours I work, I'm ussually in luck, but if I'm getting home around 5pm, I can expect to park half way accross the complex or on the street. Other parts of the complex seem to have more unmarked spots.
Garage Rental! Garage rentals are reasonable. I think it's $75 a month. May have gone up though. But, garages are only in certain parts of the complex. Not pratical to park your car in a garage if you're not near it.
Rent increases! I know things go up in price sometimes, but it seems that this is part of their marketing plan. Low introductory rates, then raise the rent once your lease has expired.
The Advice
You can do better than this place, but it's relatively inexpensive. Try to get a unit on the north side as the south side is up against the freeway and very noisy. Also, try not to get a unit near the playground as you will have noise from kids playing everyday.
