The Best Apartment Renting Experience

We live in an upper-level apartment. They have wonderfully vaulted ceilings that make it so spacious! We love that our apartment is set back a way from the street, and none of our windows face east or west, so we really don't get too much heated light from the sun. The deck is nice, and they are currently working on updating the decks, and repainting all the buildings. The landscaping is absolutely beautiful! Yard maintenance happens weekly, and the grounds always look fabulous. Management is extremely friendly, and we receive monthly flyers about the going-ons at St. Marys Woods. It gives us all a nice feel of community. The pool is great! But, the gym equipment is out-dated, and some of it doesn't work properly. There are always contests going on, giving away cash prizes and free rent. But, the best experience that really proved to us that this apartment is worth renting was when we had a terrible infestation of bird mites. (Don't freak out, yet) We naively allowed a family of starlings to nest in the attic above our second bedroom window (yes, there are a TON of birds, and we LOVE it!) and when the starlings vacated, thousands of bird mites from the nest scattered into our apartment and were tormenting our cats and US! It is a very rare thing, and even the veterinarian had no idea what we were talking about. The apartment management was hesitant to our plea for help, because they assumed our cats had fleas. But, after proving they did not (thanks to the vet) - St. Mary's actually booked us a night in a HOTEL so that we could get some much needed sleep, free from the mites! Not only were we treated well, but they made sure that the hotel allowed us to bring our cats for the night, too! And they scheduled a fumigation the very next morning! They removed the starling nest and we are free of bird mites. We are totally grateful that St. Mary's took such care of us, and our cats! We really were amazed.
Another plus, is that it is located pretty near to the Tualatin Nature Park. There are a lot of adorable Barn Swallows, nesting right above our front door, there are a ton of hummingbirds, house finches and Pine Siskins, and even a local red-tail hawk. But, the apartments are surrounded by 33 acres of wetlands! We've even heard coyotes at night before. It's a very relaxing environment, set back from Hwy 10. Only con is the occasional hoodlum that likes to rev his car engine and speed off in a cloud of smoke, somehow acheiving a show of his great manhood, I suppose. Hard to escape those types, though. Can sometimes hear noise from the street, but rarely over the chatter of the birds. :)
