Would NEVER suggest this complex

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
Signed a 6 month lease when first moved in. Lived there for a total of 7 months. During my stay nothing to unusual to complain about, apartments are old. Walls are thing. Had problems with bugs, but that's about it. Bedrooms are large, everything else is quite small. Maintenence crew was pretty nice, never had problem with them. After lease was up, we had to pay monthly, our rent was increased by $80! After moving out and recieving our deposit refund check and dealing with management, we found out that we should have been paying another $34 on top of that $80 increase. So we were charged for that! Their reason being was because when we were notified of the month-to-month increase we were to 'assume' (their words!) that that did not include the water and sewer. And that's where the $34 was coming from. We NEVER recieved a late fee notice about not paying that, they decided to deduct it without our knoweledge from our deposit 2 months after we paid the rent and moved out! They did refund us partially on the water/sewer because they did not give us a prorate amount when we moved out.
From our deposit they also deducted pretty hefty fees for touch-up painting and carpet shampoo. We had the carpets shampooed ourselves (which they had absolutely no stains by the way), and there was nothing that needed to be painted! The girl who did the walk-through with my husband even said 'the place looks great, I can't see anything wrong.'
Management could only say that if you have not been there for 18 months or more you will be charged for ANY wear and tear. Which we know, it's stated on our rental agreement. She also said that it was required by LAW that THEY shampoo the carpets, and charge us for it, it does not state that on the agreement.
Needless to say, you live there for less than 18 months and you are guarranteed to pay for paiting and shampooing.
The company who owns this complex (Cambridge) is very greedy. From what I have heard, no one has EVER recieved their full deposit back. What a shame, out of the 4 places my husband and I have rented, this is the ONLY place to have not given us our full deposit upon move-out.
This is not to offend the girls in the office. They tried for me! Thanks. odusyNYCcZ7yL3Bj5JtG
