Best Corvallis has - which isn't saying much

Having recently moved to Corvallis from abroad I was depressed to discover how poor the rental market was in town. There exists only two types of property: dirty, old dives or modern but cheap and nasty complexes. There doesn't seem to be any decent rentals available in this town. There is certainly nothing I would consider to be of 'Professional' standard.
After visiting almost every moldy dump in town I came to the realisation that Grand Oaks was as good as it gets. It's way overpriced, with inflexible rental agreements and large rental increases if you don't sign on again for another 6 months.
The buildings are acceptable only because they are new. Like most of Corvallis the construction is cheap, and the noise proofing non-existent. It's like living in a cheap office space inside a giant plastic shed. (Why is plastic siding so popular in Corvallis - is there a town law against using bricks to build things')
On the plus side, the rooms are relatively spacious, it comes equiped with the basics, and there is a nice enough balcony or porch with plenty of storage.
Not long after I moved in they cut down all the trees nearby and began construction of condo. This was despite the fact I had specifically asked if there was any plan to develop the area in question in the near future. Afterward they claimed not to have know about this planned construction... So now I have a building site near my window where the workers start at 7.00am.
I would love to be able to recommend somewhere better, but like potterh whose post about Grand Oaks I've just read, Corvallis is a terrible place to find a rental. My advice is to live and work somewhere else.
