Not what I bargained for

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
My main complaints with this apartment complex is that I was moving from a distance and was specific about my needs and did not get what I bargained for.
I negotiated to take possession of an apartment sooner than I wanted, just so they wouldn't "give it away" to someone else. Days later, I was told I would need to take the apartment a month earlier or lose it. I took it.
I confirmed that the apartment was on the top floor and had a balcony. When I arrived, I had neighbors upstairs and no balcony. I shared a landing with the neighbors, which they used to park their bike.
I specifically asked about the bus system and access to the university, and while the location is convenient to travel to the mall, etc., the busstop was farther than they'd led me to believe, required a transfer, and couldn't get me to school on time for my morning classes.
I traveled to Eugene to visit the apartment complex, and several others, and the grounds were well kept, and continued to be that way during my stay there. Although my apartment had fresh paint and carpet when I got there, very nice, problems over the course of my tenancy made the apartment difficult to live in. I had several leaks, one from a toilet in the bathroom above my kitchen. (Yes, a toilet leaked into my kitchen.) Each leak left holes in my ceiling, one in the bedroom above my bed bigger than a fist, and another in the kitchen, which was smaller, but much more destructive. Both took months to fix and in the meantime, my inquiries and requests for service were met with excuses. ALL THE WHILE I paid my rent in full and on time.
Finally, the one bedroom and studio apartments have no washer dryer, but the clubhouse has a laundry facility. While I bargained for having to walk over there in the dark to do laundry, I was frustrated to find that the entire year I lived there, several machines were broken and never fixed. Several months in, someone finally put up a sign, but no repair ever occurred. Also, the someone appears to use machines to wash batches of towels and leave them in the machines over night, thereby further reducing the number of machines available for residents. (I presumed it was the staff washing work out room or pool towels, but it could be a resident.)
I have lived in many apartment complexes and because I am busy, I choose to pay for the convnenience of someone else doing the landscaping, the maintenance, etc. However, here I became very frustrated that I was paying for minimal staff who could not accomodate the number of tenants and problems with the facility.
On the other hand, had I not had any maintenance problems, I would have thought the facility nice, and the staff friendly, but moved to find a better commute. Bottom line, running an apartment is a business and although the staff was pleasant, I did not feel they were responsive to my needs as a tenant and frankly, that's what I'm paying for.
