Fair, Honest, Management

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009

My Mom lived here for just shy of two years from May 2007 through March 2009. At Move-in she put down a $250 regular deposit and a $200 pet deposit for her two cats. She also had to pay a $150 carpet cleaning and lock-changing fee. At the time she moved in, I was bothered by the $150 fee. It seemed very high to me, but we dealt with it.
When she moved out, she and I cleaned everything thoroughly except the carpet, knowing it was part of that fee. We also ensured that everything was clean and accounted for based on the list she was handed at move-in detailing what she would be charged for at move-out as needed. It was a clear, concise list - all information up front on what was expected of her as a tenant.
Two weeks to the day after her final move-out walk-through, she received her full $450 deposit back. Management companies have 30 days to return deposits, but Parkside not only returned it in two weeks; they returned the full amount because my Mom did her part.
In contrast, I moved at the same time from a place where my family and I lived for just shy of five years. Upon move-in, we put down a $250 security deposit and $50 cleaning fee. Despite thoroughly cleaning my apartment INCLUDING shampooing the carpets, I only got back $20 of my $250 deposit. Supposedly there was still 14 (!!!) hours of cleaning to do on my place. In essence, my deposit was stolen from me. We were giving no information on what was expected cleaning-wise until we were moving out and even then the list was ridiculously over the top, including removing and cleaning under all the faucet handles. (No, I'm not kidding.) This apartment complex - The Heron Club on Goodpasture Loop in Eugene near Valley River Mall - is all shine on the outside but was completely dishonest and underhanded in stealing my deposit.
The fees may seem a bit high at Parkside, but at least you know what you're getting when you walk in the door - honesty.
