Not the worst, but pretty bad...

I've seen and visited people at worse apartment complexes. However, there really isn't anything good about Holly Ridge.

When we moved in, all of our drawers and cabinets had old bits of food and nasty stains. Check one on the move-in checklist. The carpet sucked. The lease usually says that you pay no matter what, something for carpet at move out. I made them write in my lease no carpet charges on move-out. The refrigerator is likely 15 years old. Probably purchased from a surplus auction...

The office manager (won't mention names), is a fairly nice lady. She seems reponsive to my issues. The rest of the staff is seemingly more lazy. Everytime I walk in to the leasing office, they are usually just chatting with each other. When they notice me, I notice eye-rolling and get an inpolite "how can we help you"' (Help' Well first you could smile, be polite, and recognize me as a tenant and not a f'in paycheck.)

The parking here is a nightmare. Especially if you have a visitor after office hours. The people at Dinky's towing are horribly rude to deal with...not to mention a waste of time. For example, a couple of nights ago, I had a friend over after office hours. I called Dinky's like I was supposed to so I could get a temporary spot for just a couple of hours. They tell me that there are no spots available...EVEN THOUGH I personally know that 3 of the 4 in front of my building are NOT assigned... If you have two vehicles, don't lease here, it will be horrible. Had my car towed from MY OWN SPOT because they couldn't see my sticker "in the dark". Called towing company, they said sorry, we towed for a valid reason, that'll bee $300...yea right...went to management and demanded they pay for it. They paid for it after some argument. Still, I was three hours late for work because I had to go pick up the vehicle on the other side of town.

Maintenance staff is either under-trained, or under-qualified..maybe both'''

Three trips to have my 1980's model dishwasher fixed because of a metal fixture on the inside leaving nice rust stains on all of my dishes. The first visit, I was left with what looked like Caulk all over my counter and dishwasher...EXCUSE ME'' CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. That just makes me wonder what else they nosed through while they were in my apartment. I revoked permission for them to enter my apartment while I'm not home.

I needed a new washer and dryer. I got a 20 year old washer and a brand new dryer. Ok, I guess I can live with that. What I can't live with is them scractching the hell out of my cabinets with the corners of these machines. I've been told I'll have to pay for that damage...we'll see about that.

Lastly, the upstairs neighbor who likes to make noise similar to dropping a bowling ball on the floor at all hours of the day and night. Management "left him a notice"...won't do anything else. Maybe I'll just complain every time I hear something until they get the hint.

All in all: The apartments physically are nice. Good layout. Parking needs lots of work before they spend a bunch of money "gating" the community. Need stricter enforcement on kids around the complex. Always something going wrong/getting vandalized, not to mention 7 year olds shouldn't be out unsupervised loitering about and jetting out into blind corners of the parking lot. I would not recommend unless you are looking strictly on price. Rent was a decent deal for the area.
