The apartments themselves are large and sterile feeling. You'll have to make it look like the day you moved upon move-out. Even if you clean it perfectly you'll still be hit with a cleaning fee. And another fee. With a fee upon that, for this and some other reason. You'll move out on time, with hundreds of dollars lost. Thousands if you break your lease for any other reason than spontaneous combustion. After paying them around $2k for breaking out lease we ended up owing them another $100. They sent a collection agency after us. This agency said we owe $150. Too bad. We paid most of the first amount, but got the check wrong and still owed them $15. Too bad. The collection agency was not told to lay off until we had paid the last cent. This was only a month and a half after leaving the apartment.

Also, the front staff is always changing. This reflects poorly on the managers, since good managers can keep an employee. They not only couldn't keep an employee, they can't keep a resident unless it's somebody that has zero requests and likes living in that exact location, even if there are scores of the same exact buildings all over Hillsboro, but thankfully run by different people.

All in all I learned my lesson, very expensively, by renting from a corporation that wouldn't care if I lived or died or was treated extremely poorly. It's all about that profit margin, even when it comes to your own home and safety.

Duh! Clean your apartment and you won't have fees.

If you pay your fees and fines you wont go to collections. By the way, a collection agency charges up to 50 percent of the damages, so if you think about it they have lost money. Unless you enjoy cleaning and are O.C.D. it is highly unlikely that you will get your apartment as clean as it needs to be when you move out.

I spent 6 hrs cleaning the apartment, steam cleaning the carpet etc. and they still hit me with a cleaning and painting fee...

I have no idea who this resident is as we have never had anyone pay our company over $2000.00 when they moved out. We never charge past residents unecessary charges. Also, our maintenance staff has experienced some changes as some employees were able to find other positions within the market that better fit their needs, but the office staff has been the same since the new owners acquired the property back in November. So the accusation of poor management does not add up.Concerning the comments to this posting, I know of the one that states they spent 6 hours cleaning their apt, and the pictures that we took state otherwise, hence the reasoning for a charge. We are very fair and have had many residents that have recieved deposit monies in return after leaving Cortland Village.
