I am still a tenant at Cortland Village and the author of the review that mentioned the spiders and rats. My husband, baby and I are great tenants and nice people. My apartment and storage unit has always been very clean. The concern with the pest issues was a reasonable one. My storage unit NEVER had any food, garbage or anything to invite a pest issue...is just occured (twice)and was very frustrating. The spiders and small bugs are always dispointing but the size and frequency of the spiders of summer 2007 was unlike anything I'd seen, EVER. My guests would comment and them and were literally scared to vistit. I was just in writing a review of those items as I am also in customer service and know that not everyone with a concern is "making something up". I'm been very dispointed seeing the responses to the review I wrote - I did not ask to have my apartment infested. I'm paying for a service like all other tenants and would bet my living style is amongst the best in the property. We are a quiet, clean, reasonable family with real concerns. I ALWAYS approach the property staff with respect and am very fair. It just so happened that we had issues and our expectations were not met. I will also say the new management is very nice and seems to keep the grounds looking good. I'm a currently pleased with the property and even recommending it to family and friends.

Holy! I can't believe how large the spider is! Good work posting the picture. People need to know about this place. These apartments may be located in Orenco, but it seriously lacks the quality. I have never lived in a worse apartment throughout my entire life.

I have lived in this complex for almost 10 months. Spiders live on the planet earth - and yes in Oregon they can get very large. opt for a room that is above ground level...spiders are everywhere, get used to it and stop being a wimp. You could get ran over by a car tomorrow and have less of a chance of that spider harming you. Keep in mind they were eating the other bugs that could of crawled into your home. God forbid. about your 'rat'. I am sorry to say you probably had some type of candy or Christmas goodies in your storage shed. (candy canes? yum) Material things get ruined, be it by fires or a rat that got caught in your shed. The complex should not be held responsible for putting up a huge 'rat' fence around every building. animals and humans live together. unpleasant as it may seem. I would also say get over it, in no way is that the complexes fault. The white chunks in your water is something I have never had an issue with. So I don't know what to tell you. however, judging by your reaction to the poor spiders and the vicious rat that died a slow painful death in your shed I would say it's nothing anyone else would worry about.

The property was sold to new owners back in November of 2007. I as the property manager was not here in the summer or spring of 07 to address the spider and rat issues and now being June of 08, we have had no complaints thus far concerning spiders. I know that we have a pest control company that would be more than happy to come out and take a look at the spider condition if this was ever brought to the staffs attention. I am sorry that you have experienced alot of staff turnover, but I have been the property manager for the last 8 months and have obvoiously not met you or heard of your concerns or I would be quite aware of your scenario. We value all of our residents, and respond to their concerns promptly and efficiently.

Instead of a "rat fence", why don't you try hanging the storage patio doors lower? For the love of pete, ours is at least 2" from the ground. Why not send the critters a written invite?! I have had my belongings chewed and crapped on by the rats, spiders the size of my hand creeping into my bed at night...and the worst.....my moldy mattress that had to be replaced because of the lack of weatherization. (My renter s insurance doesn't cover it). NASTY!
