I lived here for 3 years and in the beginning it was great, but there has been a decline since new ownership and management took over.

-Stairwell was disgustingly dirty and never cleaned or swept.
-Lights in both stairwells were completely out for over two weeks, made it very dangerous to go up and down stairs.
-Landscaping no longer manicured on a weekly basis, looks very unkept.
-Rent went up $200 per month, but SAME apartment on craigslist was going for just $20 more than what I had been paying, and with two weeks free. I only moved because of the rent increase. I was willing to put up with everything else because it is a decent place to live.

I cannot understand why they would want to get rid of a tenant, have a vacancy, spend the money to get it ready, offer significantly lower rent than what they quoted me on renewal, offer two weeks free instead of just giving me a $25 increase.
I would love to hear the explanation.

We like it here too. Not sure why you should "consider yourself warned", you appear to have been here almost three years. I'm sure you'd know by now whether or not you liked the place.
