Better choices elsewhere

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2003
This is the first time we?ve lived in an equity managed property and I have to say, it?s probably the worst managed property I have stayed in thus far. (I?ve lived on 6 different properties thus far.) They just started a saturday brunch and a security patrol which is definately a plus but I think it?s only because it?s a renter?s market and to fill their vacancies they needed to make improvements. The perks will probably dissappear as soon as they don?t need to fill so many vacancies. The repair men were creepy and they leered at my daughter. The apartments are old and there was severe water damage in the bathroom as well as mold and dirt in many corners, especially around the sliding glass doors. We were lucky because our apartment had new carpet, but I can imagine how horrid it could be if it hadn?t been new when compared to the condition the apartment was in as a whole. The water heater gives about a 15 minute shower before it turns ice cold and the apartment was very cold in the winter, requiring the heavy use of the heaters which skyrockets the electric bill to an unacceptable level for such a small place.
The extra parking is ample, but there are many young people who like to rev their engines or motorcycles at night (I was awaken at 4 in the morning because they are making such a racket more than once) and drive around in the parking lot very fast. There are screaming matches held in the parking lot from time to time (and in the apartments if you have neighbors who fight a lot) and they can be clearly heard. Carpenter ants love to sneak in from everywhere and we spray bug spray at least once a month to keep the various insects at bay because I hate bugs.
The apartments are spacious for their price, but don?t be fooled. Our little apartment has an enormous electric bill for the size even in the summer. And the water they charge is extortion. Also, the rent for new lease signers who don?t already live at this apartment complex is lower than the rent I was paying but they don?t offer to lower your rent if you sign a new lease, they just increase the rent. It?s a bad deal overall, and I would encourage anyone to just stay away from here and any equity managed property around here. There are other great properties around the same area for competitive prices and with better facilities. I?m just glad to be out of there!
