They'll screw you on the lease (there's more than one complaint here)

We moved into Tanasbourne Terrace a few years ago. After six months, we decided to leave because the noise from Evergreen was so bad that we had to keep our Master Bedroom on the other side of the house from where it was intended to go. The apartments were rather expensive to begin with and yet, when my friends looked around, they gleefully offered them rent that was about $150 less per month than what we were paying and told us that it had to do with "market conditions" as though those had changed drastically in the three months we had lived there.
When we were moving in, they explained the lease terms to us and also we read the entire contract. However, during our stay there, the management changed and quite arbitrarily decided to attempt to enforce a different lease than the one we had signed. Initially, they were more than happy to honor the original lease but somehow, when we actually got to the office they had completely lost track of what we were talking about. (We went down two days later.) A brand new clause had magically appeared and they were absolutely determined that we would pay a lease option that we hadn't signed on for.
After attempting to charge us various fees and get us for another months rent, we simply moved out without paying them anything at all. After months of hassling us, they finally turned us over to the Corporate collections office who agreed to "settle" with us for exactly $75 more than what we had originally been perfectly happy to pay under our lease conditions because it was what we owed. There was NO PURPOSE behind what they did except to try and extort money out of us. When they learned that wasn't happening, they simply went back to their original agreement.
Equity has been sued in the past. LOOK IT UP before you move here. They are routinely pulling stuff like this. Move in if you like, but be aware of what you're signing up for.

Didn't you have a copy of the lease you signed? And anyone familiar with the area knows how busy Evergreen Parkway is......... |
