Somewhat disappointed

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
The apartments are spacious, although the design (many angles) means a lot of space is wasted, especially in the closets. There are occasional problems with noise, but not more than other apartments and a lot less than some. Maintenance is horrible, however (it took me months to get the flourescent lightbulbs in the kitchen replaced and weeks - and four tries - to get the right color wallpaint to touch up the wall after I moved my shelves). Squirrels infest the roof and actually dug through my ceiling at one point (it took three days for someone to come and patch the holes). You will get a weekly "newspaper" filled with advertisements left at your doorstep each week and numerous ads left on your door for pizza places, etc. (the apartment doesn't care about solicitors). But what finally prompted me to get the h*** out of Dodge was when my downstairs neighbor decided to start leaving dirty diapers, trash and beer bottles outside her door. Since I have to pass by her door to get to my apartment, and since she only takes the trash to the dumpster - some twenty yards away - every weekend, by Friday it's smelling pretty ripe. I've complained numerous times to no avail. Now I have a major problem with flies, and I suspect it won't be long until the roaches and mice follow, so I'm moving out the end of this month. I feel like I'm living in a dumpster. Now my next-door neighbor has started leaving his bags outside his door, so I guess the diaper lady has started a trend.
I would definitely not recommend moving in until you take a look around the grounds. You'll start noticing the trash lying around, the back porches overflowing with junk and unwanted crap, and the general feeling that for all its rustic charm, it's basically an over-priced dump yard.
PLEASE NOTE: When I moved in, I had to pay one month's rent plus a $250 security deposit. I left my apartment spotless. I didn't have time to do a walk-through, but I trusted the staff would be honest. I don't think it took a week for me to get my full deposit (both the month's rent and the security deposit) returned. A check was mailed to my new address. So I would definitely say they're trustworthy when it comes to deposits and such.
Also, as luck would have it, the family that was leaving dirty diapers and bags of trash on the landing for days on end moved out the day before I did. I don't regret moving, but if the apartment had done something about the trash (and about the constant barrage of ads left at my doorstep), I would have signed for another year. As it was, I decided to move back to the East Coast.
Because of the speed with which they returned my security deposit (in full) I bumped up my rating one point.
