I'm not sure why everyone is slamming this apartment complex. There were a few minor problems, but there are a lot of great reasons to recommend this place. And I do recommend it!
Pros:
The location is excellent: within close walking distance you have multiple grocery stores, good restaurants, every business you could possibly need, the Streets of Tanasbourne outside mall area, 3 starbucks, barnes & noble, bus stop, a walking park along Rock Creek, etc (I walked almost everywhere). The bus ride is about 5 minutes to the Max. You don't even need to go into the town of Hillsboro for anything (although it is close as well), everything is right there. You are also about a minute from highway 26, less than 20 minutes to downtown Portland when traffic is clear.

The apartment itself was BY FAR the nicest in the price range (610/month) of any I looked at: good condition, clean, spacious layout even for a 1 bedroom, safe and non-creepy area where you can feel safe walking around. Covered, lighted parking is included, steps from the door of my apartment in my case, and there are multiple guest parking spots as well (and garages to rent, although I went with the included carport). There are lots of cupboards and storage space, (I moved from a three bedroom house, I had a lot of stuff), a wood-burning fireplace, and although I was renting a 1-bedroom/1-bath, there is an additional bathroom counter with mirrors, cupboards and storage cabinets to get ready at if someone else is in the bathroom. We also had a patio to put potted plants and such on. The grounds are nice and kept up better than many surrounding complexes: lawns frequently mowed, nice landscaping, lovely cherry trees.

There is a pet fee but this was halved when we moved in by the person signing us up (we only paid for one pet instead of two). They also have a nice clubhouse to rent for special occasions which we used. The staff are attentive and easy to get along with, I never had any problem with them.

Cons: Although the area was very quiet most of the time (no roar of traffic or noisy shouting people roaming around) we did have a noisy upstairs neighbor who was up at all hours of the night, but this was not the fault of the apartment complex. On one occasion (only one) he played music very loud after 11. Since he was not responsive to our knocks, we contacted the all-hours security patrol and they addressed the issue, we never had any problem after that.

My biggest complaint was with the maintenance. This is not the staff of the apartment complex, the maintenance is a contracted company. They didn't come in to fix things when on the days they said they would (sometimes taking several days after the issue was reported) and required multiple follow-up calls. However, the staff was sympathetic to the issue and addressed this with the maintenance company. Basically if you report something broken and they don't show up on the specified day, just report it immediately and keep checking in. I've certainly had worse, though, and the maintenance calls weren't because of malfunctioning apartment features.
