Pretty Decent...

My wife and I looked for months for a decent apartment that wasn't your typical cookie-cutter complex, after we sold our home and waited for our new one to be finished. We lucked out with Iron House and were able to rent one of the top floor models with it's soaring ceilings and great floor layout... as well as beautiful hardwood floors and nothing but windows on the backside of the unit... floor to ceiling. We moved in just as the section 8 apartment complex behind was being vacated by its tenants. A month or two later the construction started and in all honesty... that was difficult to live with but gave us a great taste of what it would be like to live in our current home in the SoWa neighborhood. The interior of our unit was awesome, absolutely. If you love Danish modern design... you'll love some of the units in Iron House. I've not seen in all of them but I've heard only a handful are in great condition while others are no longer as beautiful as they once were. Our unit was a one bedroom w/ a second side room that could be closed off with the built-in moving screens. The kitchen was small and not as cool as the rest of the place but after all... it is an old rental apartment. There is not air conditioning but there's always a good breeze coming through the windows all summer. Not enough to keep you cool all night long but it definitely helps. The insulation seemed less than great. Cold in the winters and hot in the summers. And pray that your neighbors are fairly quiet. We had a neighbor below us that was... um... frisky, a lot. And vocal during said friskiness. After several complaints to the management (who thankfully talked to her) she must have got fed up and decided to move out. The new neighbor was also frisky just not as often. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can hear just about everything from the neighbor below you. I rarely heard the neighbor next door, even though he had a teenage daughter. So maybe there's more insulation in the walls than there is in the floors... I don't know. Anyone who came to visit us always talked about how great the apartment was and how they would live there in a second. Our unit was a second floor unit at the back end next to the new condos that have recently been finished, I can't remember the unit number. It overlooked the back parking lot. A nice deck to relax on, tons of storage/closet space and feels much larger than it really is. Renters come and go, but for the most part I liked most of the neighbors I met while living there. Seemed like a small community to me.
