Altamont Summit has some gorgeous views, and it's a quiet community on the outside. The staff is friendly and I love the inside of our apartment. However, the floors/ceilings sound like they are made of older wood without much insulation to them, so that part has been uncomfortable; I wear ear plugs every night. Obviously, living in an apartment, people will hear their neighbors from time to time, but the ceilings are so thin here that I can hear when people above me go to the bathroom. I was sitting on my bed looking at wedding dress pictures with my sister one evening, and the neighbor below us called security because he was annoyed that he could hear us talking (and I have a pretty quiet voice); I think the security guard thought it was funny. I was annoyed that I couldn't even whisper without the guy getting mad, but I can understand his frustration because the floors are really that thin, so I worry every time I take a step in the apartment because I don't want to upset anyone. I don't think vandalism/break-ins occur very often up here, but our car was broken into about two months after we moved in; they smashed the windows and tried to steal the car, so that wasn't fun, but the office called to notify us about it so I appreciate that they keep an eye on things. Being up on a hill, it does get colder up here during the wintertime, so it is very difficult driving down the hill when it snows..there is a snow route but that's usually too snowed over as well; that issue, the noise, and the lack of parking spaces has swayed me to move, but the location really is nice, and the apartments are very pretty. There's a nice walking trail behind the apartment complex too, and a cute park for children, so there are aspects of the complex that I'm going to miss. If you do decide to live here, make sure you move to the top floor to avoid noise issues, you'll need a 4 wheel drive with chains to get up and down the hill during snow storms (if we have another crazy winter like the last one!), and hopefully you only have one car to worry about finding a parking spot for. One thing I will say, even though there are not NEARLY enough parking spaces, my reserved parking spot has never been taken by some one visiting, so kudos to that. I guess I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other about Altamont Summit...I don't think I'd recommend people to move here, but I figured I'd share my experience so people will be aware of the good and the not-so-great, so you can make your own informed opinion. Hopefully this was helpful for ya:)

I'm from California, so I wasn't ready for the snow, hehe. From what I've heard, usually, the snow isn't really an issue here; however, this past winter, Portland set a record for how much snow it got (the last time it snowed that much was in 1939 or something). The main issue was our hill wasn't plowed for a long time, so we were kind of stranded up here for awhile. If you are used to driving in snow, however, I think you'll be fine:)

Great, thanks! We chose a different place to live and it's crummy so still considering this place. We drove by it today and it does look really pretty.
