Changed in last few years

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
I moved into the Buckman Terrace about 3 years ago. I lived there for a little over 2 years. When I moved in it was a very nice place, attentive staff and amenities that weren't all that comparable to the other "vintage" apartments in town. Also, public transit was a must for me and taking pets. Laudry on every floor and dishwashers were great. However, after living in a nice place for about 9 mos or so it changed management. The residents changed from just starting out couples and yuppies, to hippies and immigrants sharing 10 to a room. Dogs got bigger and more of them. I lived next to a woman and her girlfriend that shared a 1 bedroom apartment with three large dogs and a cat. You can imagine what is was like in there. I realized I had to move, the high school parking lot became consumed with drug dealers and kids. I got hassled by groups of snotty ghetto teeenagers on my way to the max every morning. The summer heat cooked my west facing third floor apartment unitl I started sleeping at friends houses. I am not kidding when I say my apartment easily reached 100 degrees on a 85-90 degree day. Air conditioner are unavailable due to the window setup and a portable unit inside would cost almost as much a months rent. On top of everything, I lived there 2 years and had four fires, 2 happening a week apart awaking everyone at 2:30 am. I gave up and moved. You can definitely do worse in Portland, but you can definitely stay out industrial area with a building that obviously doesn't care about maintaining any elegant living. I moved to a neighborhood that was active all the time, with markets and coffee shops which lowers crime and definitely was able to get away from the dogs and the summer heat.
