Rent not Cheap anymore thanks to new management

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 9/3/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

After my lease is over, my rent is going to go up $120 thanks to the new managers and their cute little $35/m water bill. GEE what a nice way to raise everyones rent by handing out water bill fees! And this is of course, after you tell me that you're going to enter my apartment between 1 to 3 days between the hours of 8am and 5pm - I'm sure everyone here LOVED having the secure feeling of their home being "inspected" when they are not there. Seriously, the note said "if this creates a serious problem for you please contact us"
Well I contacted them and left several voicemails but they never called back, and they also showed up when they damn well felt like it. They never mentioned what the inspection would be about until they showed up.

Whats wrong with my unit'

-It has mold
-a cabinet door in the kitchen has fallen off 3 times- thank god my son wasn't sitting on the counter at the time.... finally after telling them how the wood was rotting and it can't be fixed did they replaced it. Now I have different shades of brown in my kitchen which they *promised* they would repaint and they never did.
-there was rotting wood on my porch we could have fallen through if not noticed in time, this has since been replaced and also promised to be painted but hasn't been.

I'm sorry but the new management totally SUCKS. They are greedy and disrespectful and I feel like they would lie to my face if I didn't already know my rights as a tenant.

They don't seem to understand that these apartments are for LOW INCOME people. Why did they need to change the paint color in the main office'' Why do we have to pay a water bill' Why are the rents higher' Now everyone who doesn't live near the main office has to haul their trash that far away. Do you people even realize some of us are single parents without cars to do this with' Do you realize that winter is coming and maybe we don't want to get sick just to take our trash out''

So right now you've got mold, roaches, rotting wood, management who could care less about you, rent rates that are not worth what you get, and a nice high crime area.

The only reason I'm living here is to get some rental history on my record because it's my first real apartment that I signed a lease with. If you have rental barriers, this place will probably let you in. But I can't even vouch for that now because of the new management , that does not CARE how poor you are. They just want your money and will TRY anything legal or illegal they can do to get it. They will try to trick you and if you point it out they'll say "oh oops! sorry! didn't know that!"

I will be leaving here when my lease is up. I agree that this place should be bulldozed and new apartments should be put up here by HUD and rented out to low income people that way.

Sure its nicer than east new york (and I have lived in brownsville brooklyn as a white girl), but this is portland or people. Demand that you deserve better than this.
