Better Off Down the Road

The Good: The staff was friendly and welcoming. The complex is attractive, with pools, a playground, a stream, trees, and the buildings comfortably spread out. (I should mention that I lived here during the winter and was never able to actually use any of the recreation facilities, so I don't know if they were well maintained or even open to tenants during the summer). The Max was a short bus ride from the front of the drive, and walkable (30 minutes). Three grocery stores, a county library, and my bank were all within walking distance, making the location very convenient. Additionally, there are a large number of other businesses round the corner or down the road, bars, restaurants, cleaners, etc. My apartment was clean and spacious, with a covered deck, new appliances, and new carpeting.
I read some of the reviews on here, and as a result, kept on the lookout for safety concerns. I frequently walked home late at night and never had a problem, nor did I ever fear for my safety. All of my neighbors were friendly and uninstrusive. Also, at the end of my lease, I received a full refund on my deposit.
The Bad: I was there five months and had three roof leaks. There was work being done to the roof during that period; however, I didn't understand why they stripped the shingles off during the rainy season, only to wait three months before finishing the work (probably more efficient, labor and cost wise). On the plus side, they were fixed promptly, and the service workers put me at ease.
Worst of all, my second floor apartment had a particularly thin floor. It was as if someone had rolled new carpet over some old, cracked-up concrete-composite floorboard slabs. The result was that the place looked fine and fresh, but the cracked up sections of the flooring would raise and lower like a see-saw, grinding and creaking, whenever you walked around. Mildly irritating for me, and worse for the downstairs neighbors. Even better, every time they had a normal conversation, I could hear it, and when they had sex, it was like they were in my kitchen. It was so bad that they could ask a question and I could answer it, with only a slightly raised voice. F* That. It was the primary reason for my leaving.
Rent was 701.00 (after water, trash, sewage) and I was income restricted. I moved down the road and my rent dropped 25%, no income restriction, in a comparable location (smaller apartment, no deck).
With 600 apartments, it's a bulk business and so individual considerations seemed lacking at times. Specifically, my apartment was entered into while I was out of town as part of a follow up for a leak that had been fixed the prior week, without me receiving actual notification (notes were left in by box and on my door). No harm done, but I found it displeasing.
In Tokyo, I lived in a 150 Sq.ft. shoebox, next to the train tracks, and a bathroom like a coffee can, and this place was less satisfying than that one, though not by much.

this one almost sounds like a staff member trying to boost the rating on here.

This is a great review & I agree with the first part. I doubt this is a staff member because they do not recommend these apt. To me the staff were nice & when I left I recieved a check/refund that I wasn't expecting. The pool was a major upset for me but I think the staff was doing their jobs. It was the people above them, the owners ect. that had/have issues. The staff just passing on the information that they heard. They were always friendly but obviously irritated at people asking constantly about when the pool would open up.
