Believe all the posts about the garbage pickup at the Essex House in Portland. 6:03 AM every weekday as of this writing on 3/26/08. Saturday, forget sleeping in because they will be by at 7:30. The windows are thin in the apartments, so keeping them closed does not help enough to prevent the 10-20 minutes of slammed metal dumpsters from waking anyone up.
There is alot of general street noise, but this sort of street noise is acceptable for downtown living.
Don't believe the model apartment. It is the only apartment in which every item is upgraded. They don't upgrade the windows, which leak cold air. Tenants pay for heat.
Walls are thick, so other rentors are not a problem. If you are unlucky enough to get an apartment adjacent to one being renovated, be prepared for lots of noise for a month. On weekends too.
Staff are friendly.

I live here and have never had an issue with noise from the dumpsters or renovations. My apartment has been renovated just like the model, my neighbors was fully- upgraded too. I love me apartment. It's the best one I've ever had.

I couldn't agree more. The garbage pickup ruins every morning, no matter when you have to get up! Do not move in!
