going downhill fast

In the two years I've lived here, the elevator and stairwells have become disgusting. A resident's troubled kid is taking his aggression out on the stairwells and elevator, scratching graffiti, spitting on the walls and ceiling, chewing up food and spitting it into the corners. To top it off, a few irresponsible pet owners who don't have the courtesy to clean up after their pets often leave giant puddles of dog urine in the elevator (the parking garage is usually nasty, too). Instead of spending money making the overworked maintenance guy clean this stuff up, the owners could install a camera for a fraction of the price and put a stop to this, but they seem content to let the property decline, and let residents live in a building that's embarrassing to show to visitors.

I live here too and I agree that one pet owner in particular, (anyone who lives on the fourth floor knows who I am talking about), has made the quality and cleanliness of the building go downhill in the last several months. Instead of posting a complaint on-line, I decided to talk to Melissa (the manager) and see what she was doing to fix the situation. She informed me that this tenant was moving out by the end of the month. Thank goodness, because I am a dog lover, and it is not the dog's fault, it is not management's fault, it is irresponsible pet owner's fault! I just hope that this guy who has no business owning a pet downtown in a midrise building does not ruin it for the rest of us that are responsible pet owners (ie: take them out in time to make it outside, pick up after they have gone #2, walk them on-leash, you know, basic common sense.)

I don't know who this kid is, but if I see him, I will give him piece of my mind. It sounds like his parents need to do a better job of keeping him in check. Is there any possible way to have the entire building on camera? I don't think so...

I have never been embarassed to show my apartment to visitors. Most of my friends are amazed that I live downtown in nice place for such a cheap price!

being the parent of the only "kid" in the building, I assume you are referring to my son. I have seen a lot of childish behavior on the part of alleged adults in this building - when my son is out of town, so knock off the genaralized blame. This building has a few partiers living in it who often leave garbage in the stairwells (ie beer bottles, cigarette butts, drug paraphanalia) There are more serious issues here than dogs and a 17 year old boy.
