So I surfed this sit for many weeks trying to find a good place to live... all from three thousand miles away. I checked out many places once I arrived in Portland, NW, SW and downtown. Out of all the places I looked at.. this is the place for me. While it is not smack in the middle of everything, and the hood next door is kind of shady, it is right next the the Pearl and a 5-15 minute walk from everything. It takes me 20 minutes to walk to class (PSU) and a 15 minute drive to my other classes (PCC Syl. campus). Lacie the manager here is beyond anything you would or could expect. She knew my housing situation was sketchy at best, she busted her butt and got me into my apt. with a ONE DAY turn around. Ben, who takes care of the building is helpful, friendly and always willing to help. He too goes beyond what is expected. The building is new(er) and it shows. Everything is clean, working, safe and secure, two vending machines, some parking (there is a city center garage RIGHT next door for $119/month) and fresh paint on everything. There is a new washer and dryer on every floor, new carpet through out, and the building it's self has a clean, fresh look.
I have a rent controlled studio that has plenty of space, lots of closet space and the bathroom is large enough for two people to move about without bumping into each other. The walls and floors are block and sound does not leak from one apt to the other. For where it is, and what it costs and the size of the windows alone, this place is a deal.
Now the down sides -
It's noisy. Greyhound is a few blocks away and they use Everett to get to the highway. Everett is a major one way that draws traffic at both rush hours. There is an auto body shop right out of my window, and it can loud during the day 'sometimes', but at night it's completely silent. Crack is sold two streets over.. BUT... but .... dealers here don't give acrap. You say no, they go 'alright' and walk off. Plus they are always watching out for the police, and they don't put up with any crap on 'thier' streets, so you don't have to worry about getting mugged. I know that's kind of messed up, but it's true. This area is the last one to under go renevation, and it seems to be a little slow in the coming. But it IS happening. But you know, it's a hundred times safer than most developed cities and if you life downtown, well you live downtown. Deal with it. Everything is keyed to get in, including the elevator, and there are at least 16 cameras around/in the place. So security really isn't an issue.
All in all this is a great place to live. Everyone here seems really nice, well groomed (read that as clean smelling) and more than happpy to lend a hand.
This is also, for you smokers - a smoking building. To top it all off, they also allow pets. You can't beat this place and I can't say enough about the manager Lacie.
If you can, move here. I don't plan on moving for a couple of years at least.

****** 6 Month Update ******
I have now been here for 6 months and nothing in this review has changed except that I like it here even more. 'They' are proactive about fixing things here and don't wait until it's already broken before fixing it. More new paint, new sconces on the walls (with an updated contemporary look), new washer and dryers, bike rack... you name it, they are on it. When they have inaccessible window washings, Ben the maintenance chief removes your screens and cleans them for you. That's way beyond! When there was a problem with 'animal smells' on my floor, Lacie the manager took it care of it herself very very thoroughly. There has not been a problem since. You need to dust your fan and can't reach it, just ask Ben and he will let you borrow a step stool. If something does break, it's fixed right away. Actually the only complaint that I have is that they don't stock enough Sprite in the vending machine. That's the kind of problem I like having in a housing situation. Not enough Sprite. Seriously, stop screwing around and just move here.
Great location, OUTSTANDING staff, clean, secure, affordable, large windows, two blocks from the Max., three 'corner stores', The Pearl two streets over, The best Chinese food ever 1/2 a block away (Golden Horse), Train, Plane, the Max, Bus, Greyhound, Streetcar, and all major highways (84, 205, 5, 26) are between a 5 minute walk and a 15 minute Max/car ride.
What more are looking for'
Yes I actually live here, no I'm not getting a kick back. Trust me if this place sucked, you would hear about it at the top of my lungs.

Hi! Is there anyway you could help me get in contact with the manager of the building? I've left two messages on the voicemail, each a week apart, and no one's called back yet. My husband and I are moving to Portland in December, and this building is EXACTLY what we want--it's close to everything, and seems really nice, and has excellent reviews, AND is in our price range. I just wish they would call me back! If you have an email address of anything, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
