Donīt belive what the leasing agents tell you - get it in writing

Ive lived here since 1998.

My 4th or 5th lease (whos counting) is up the end of April 2004.

Im currently in a 2BR apartment and was looking to move into one of their 1BR apts.

Before turning in my 30 day notice, I asked specifically if I could remain in my apartment if I changed my mind and needed another month.

"Sure, no problem" they said.

"Just let me know".

I went back to the office the 4/7/2004 (3 wks before move-out), and inquired on a 1BR, but didnt know if I would make the dead-line on the garage, and hoped I could keep the garage I had for an additional month.

To my surprise, I was informed that my apartment and garages had been rented and I had no choice but to "get out" of both the apartment and garage.....

Now, we have been very reliable tenants for 5 years.

Never late on our rent, never caused any problems or had any complaints againts us.

We were also very patient when they could not get our leaky roof fixed for months...

They finally had to cut out our ceiling in the foyer, and to their surprise, former maintenance had had the same problem.

They fixed it with a 5 gal bucket, which was now full and overflowing..

We also have a balcony that is falling down, but will get fixed after we move out.

Which is fine with me.

It only became a problem a couple of months ago and I said they could wait.

Now, whats the big deal about letting me remain where I am for another month' Is it really rented or is someone getting an extra bonus for "NEW" tenants.

My fault, I should not have believed what I was told, and asked for it in writing.

They never denied that they told me I could "change my mind if I needed an extra month", they only reminded me of what they had in writing.

Oh well, Ill never rent here again.
