Think twice before you sign a lease here.

Last year, when my husband and I moved here, McCormick was supposedly a nice place, with a weight room, heated pool, and a racqetball court. Now the place is being made into condos, and we left. Large numbers of tenants were forced to move. More tenants will have to move, and while we lived there, management kept changing the order of the buildings that needed to be vacated. In other words, rent here at your own risk, and don't plan on a long stay. If your building is next in the remodeling schedule (and that kept changing), you will need to find other housing, which was an unexpected hassle for my husband and I.

The racquetball court was taken away while we still lived there. We never got to use the pool and the outdoor jacuzzi as they were closed as well. In other words, we never got close to what we paid for. The weight room was closed as well. That means all the amenities were removed. Imagine paying top dollar for a no pool - no anything apartment.

When management decided to turn the water off all day, or paint the parking garage, you were lucky if you got a notice that morning. Parking was very tight here, and tenants in several buildings could not park anywhere near their units. Half of the machines in the laundry room were suddenly taken away.

The views on the river were great. Management kept changing, so many new faces. The train noise was not that bad. However, don't expect to settle in here, and don't expect quiet, as construction goes on in many buildings all day, every day. Also, don't expect to actually use the featured facilities. The only thing here that was constant was the river, and we paid dearly to live near it.

Also, there is virtually no sound insulation between the floors, which means if you have heavy people or children living over you, you will be miserable. We unfortunately had both, and should have moved to a higher floor, but we just gave up, and moved out.

Try the apartment rental guides and craigslist.org. Lots of places in Portland/Vancouver have fireplaces (none here), washer dryer in the apartment (none here), usable pool (none here) and sport courts (none here), and great views.
