Great place to live, great management and great amenities for an urban apt. complex.

I've lived here over 2 year and loved every minute of it. Where else in a downtown apt. do you get to live right on the water, have a jogging path that runs along the riverfront and right into a beautiful park that serves as the hub of the community all summer long, a swimming pool that opens as soon as the weather is warm enough and doesn't close until the weather turns bad (last year that meant late April thru mid-Oct), two jacuzzis (one at the pool outside, the other indoors open in all seasons), an exercise room (that admittedly COULD use some refurbishing of equipment), a pool table and big screen tv in a large room that is available to use for parties, an indoor basketball court and an indoor racquetball court? I am disappointed that there are no in-unit washer/dryers, however, the laundry room is spotless and convenient (they use debit cards rather than coins), secure and open 24 hrs a day and has comfortable furniture and a small library if people decide to babysit their clothes). There is also central air conditioning, which many apts. in the northwest lack. To top it all off, the parking is FREE in a part of town where parking is very desireable and generally quite expensive (much of the parking is covered, too). Furthermore, if you don't have a car, you are about 2 blocks from the Max, 2 blocks from the bus mall/fareless square, 5 blocks from the new streetcar route, 2 blocks from the Amtrak Station and Greyhound station.
Oh, did I mention there is a 24 hour security guard who moves around the complex constantly at night and is very visible? (I don't think I've ever been out at night and not run into him... and my husband and I are out walking almost every night.)
The best endorsement I can give is that my husband and I have decided to move to one of the largest units (2 stories, 2 bd, 2 bath, and 2 decks... both riverview and the one off the master bedroom is over 100 sq. ft.) instead of buying a home of our own right now because we love the location so much we can't bear to leave it yet (even though we know the smart thing for tax purposes is to buy a home).
The noise may depend on what unit you're in, but in over 2 yrs it's never been a problem for me. You have to realize you live right next to Union Station, so you WILL hear trains, but in my experience, you adapt (and my husband adapted) to that very quickly. I admit you can get stopped by trains occasionally, but there are routes around those blockages (just look at a map... go north on Naito about a mile and you can cross the tracks via an overpass... which puts you in a great position to jump on 405 anyway).
The management has been wonderful and extremely responsive whenever there was a maintenance problem. I've never waited more than 24 hours for anything to be fixed (and I've only had very minor problems... most of my maintenance requests were things I wanted to modify... like adding a handheld shower that necessitated a new pipe mounting for the threads of the showerhead I purchased... I was not charged for the modification).
I'd encourage anyone to look here... it's the heart of Portland... the landscaping is beautiful and in spring there are flowers everywhere! There is even a small marina to dock your boat if you have one.
