Is the the management as bad as they say' Definitely. You're lucky to get them on the phone.

Is it noisy' Almost unbearable - imagine 8-12 trains per day sounding horns all night - freighters filling up on grain across the river - and inconsiderate neighbors.

Is it a bad neighborhood' Terrible! The neighborhood is vacant of anything but bars, half-way houses and a HUGE rescue mission. Bums are EVERYWHERE! Imaging taking your trash out and opening the lid of the dumpster to find a bum IN THE DUMPSTER rummaging for returnable cans! I'd love to say that was an isolated incident. They are eveywhere and scary when they are on Meth. One was sitting in my parking spot talking to himself when I got home from work and I couldn't get him to move - where was security on that one'

Don't even get me started on the construction. The walls are paper thin with little sound protection, no ceiling studs, non-standard wall studs for hanging shelves, etc. Difficult to get renters/homeowners insurance since it is a flood-prone area (last flood in 1996).

Parking is absurd - there's no visitor parking and only 20 spots on the street. Your friends will end up parking a half mile away.

Security is non-existent. The guy in the shed doesn't give a f--k. Aside from the meth-heads wandering through the parking lot looking for things to steal they managed to get up to my second story balcony to steal my bike and patio furniture on TWO separate occasions. My bike was stolen even though it was chained up WHILE I WAS SLEEPING. I thought the patio furniture was safe, but three months later that vanished too. The meth heads in the neighborhood will steal anything on the first two levels - they use ropes to get up to balconies.

Don't leave anything in your car either - several people in the complex have had their cars broken into. I've lived in Manhattan and Boston and this neighborhood scares the s--t out of me - It's only a matter of time until a psycho meth fiend mugs me some night.

As for neighbors - some of them are cool, but for the most part either you don't see them or their friends are puking in the bushes.

The only cool thing is the view and the bike path, but it's hard to enjoy being outside when you have to sit on plastic furniture and yell to be heard over the trains.

Sadly, prices still go up because homeowners can't tell the difference at a first glance - I'm a pretty laid back guy and I think this place needs to be demolished - it totally sucks.

Don't be deceived by the seemigly nice apartments - it's not worth it! Keep Looking!

It is clear that you are disappointed with your experience living at McCormick Pier. You should be aware that using such pejorative terms like "bum," "meth-head," and "psycho meth fiend" only perpetuate stereotypes associated with people who are homeless and really only serve to maintain poverty-related crimes in your community. It seems that someone like you who can afford to live in a place like McCormick Pier would at least be educated enough to know better than to use such derogatory language. Spend some time thinking about how privileged you are to not have had some of the experiences that often result in homelessness (i.e., racial discrimination, mental illness, addiction, being born into poverty, etc.) and how some privileges may come from the exploitation of those who are less fortunate than you (e.g., McCormick Pier condominiums were converted from an affordable housing project for individuals with low-incomes). I don't want to live at McCormick Pier not because of what I read about your experience but because that I fear that I might be surrounded by others like you who have narrow-minded values. On the bright side, it sounds like you're young...so you still have time to learn...
