It's not THAT bad. Very diverse, colorful, accepting place.

Moreland Place isn't the best apartment community in the neighborhood, but it's not the worst. Really, you get what you pay for here. There is some substance to what the naysayers are kvetching about, but there are many good things here too.

1. Apartment Manager: Elaine Hubbard. She's not that bad. She is strictly by the book. They (management) brought her in to enforce the rules as the corporation is trying to upgrade the apartment community. The other manager, Sarah, was nicer to the tenants, but the place was more "ghetto" when she was here because no one was motivated to keep up after their pets and property. Elaine is not evil, bad, corrupt - she is legal and by the book. If you follow the rules and pay your bills on time, you'll be fine.

2. Neighborhood/Ghetto Element: It's very diverse here. You do have your requisite young, thuggish Hispanic men who act ghetto and talk ---- about the white people who live here; they are generally unfriendly, clannish, and usually stick with their own kind. That's kind of universal anyway, you'll find that anywhere you go in American these days. Someone mentioned public housing in an earlier negative ad: the housing development across the street is flippin' gorgeous! Hell, I'd live there if I could! It's inhabited mostly by Somalian Muslims who have immigrated here from -------. The kids are well-behaved, the men smile and wave at you as you drive by, and the women dress very colorfully!

3. Diverse/Radical/Eclectic Element: We have cool folks here as well: there's a wonderfully eccentric Masai woman who is kind of the mascot of Moreland Place, she loves everyone and is very kind and great with all the residents' kids. There are many --- and ------- couples who live here as well. We have Southeast Asian residents, Polynesians, ---------, --------American residents, punk rockers, satanists, g-funks, indiekids, etc. It's a total cluster----/hodgepodge. My two roommates are a --- couple. White yuppies live next door to us and underneath us. A bi-racial ------- couple live in the same building. It's not uncommon here to have a white hippie living next door to a big Mexican family living next door to a --- couple living next door to Samoans living next door to a single, Christian mother with two kids. Really, it's cool. People just coexist and hang out with each other.

Moreland Place is kind of a microcosm of Portland life. The rent is affordable and there are a lot of larger-than-life characters here. But it has an overall family friendly vibe to it too and apart from some dirty looks and trash talk in the parking lot, there's really no drama here. The neighborhood's not that bad, the rent's decent for being so close-in. I'd recommend it.

I lived there for 6 months and ran away screaming! We had a slugs crawling out from under our sink. They towed our car, saying we didn't have parking sticker (which we did). There were occasions of beer bottles under our tires. Someone tried to steal my car. Worst part about it.. Management did NOTHING. When we moved out our complaint page was empty. even though we were in the office quite often to ask about the nasty slugs crawling on our floor! I'd say...stay away from this nasty place
