You get what you pay for. For $650 a month to have a 610sqft apt. in the heart of the Pearl, I really do not expect much. I was not suprised that that the worksmanship was not of the heighest quality, or that the materials used in the kitchen and restroom were cheap. This is realy a great location at a great price. The thing that does suprise me are the tenets.
Wow. What ---- bags. The Portland City Commisioners had a vision that by providing mixed income in a "heigh quality neighborhood" they may be giving low income residents a chance to improve there standards of living. They must have thought low income redidents were responsible. The inside of the elavators have graffiti on them, there is garbage everywere, and the entire building smells like ----. And not that I have anything against weed but my god, dont hot box your room and set of the fire alarm. God I hate uneducated, punk ---- bags. I suspect that is why the people in the front office are perterved all the time. Dealing with dumb, b-o smelling punk ass kids all day would make want to go postal at the very least.
It suprises me that when people are given a chance to improve there lives, they turn a good thing into somthing bad.

My condolences to the few good tenets at this building. This obvously does not apply to you.

I agree that it's a good sized apartment in a great location for a great price, but I wouldn't pay $650 (or $0) to live in a mental institution or halfway house and sometimes it seems as if that is where I live. I've had a week off of work while switching jobs and I cannot believe how many residents are home throughout the day. I think most people that live here are on disability, social security, unemployment, food stamps and other forms of government assistance. This does not seem like a place where residents try to improve their standard of living. It seems more like the last stop, the end, rather than the bottom. The education and motivation level of many of the residents is another issue. Most people seem to have given up. And, if the residents don't care, don't make an effort, the management is not going to care and vice versa. You get what you give. However, the mentally ill and the addicts don't see beyond themselves so I don't imagine much of a change. And, the lazy and uneducated? They wait for someone else to make things better, to do things for them. Why am I here? Excellent rental references, good job, highly educated, but bad credit and for that I get lumped together with a bunch of ne'er-do-wells. Quite an interesting social experiment the Pearl Court Apartments is. The projects right in the middle of the high class Pearl district. It's so Portland.

For being so highly educated you sure do have a short-sighted view of the problems facing many underrepresented and disadvantaged portions of the population, such as people facing addiction disorders and mental illness. I do feel bad if you do not feel like you are getting what you paid for, but please come off of your high horse.
