NEVER rent here!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005

I lived in Pearl Court in 2004 for 6 months, and it was disgusting! My neighbors smoked inside their apartments, and the smell drifted into my apartment, even when I put an air blocker under my door. The person across the hall from me would stay home and drink and smoke all day and never took his garbage out and it would seep into the hallway. Sometimes he would leave his door open and the garbage would just sit in the hall. The person that lived above me was obviously on drugs when he broke the mercury in his fire sprinkler system and flooded the apartment and fled the building without alerting anyone. The water dripped into my apartment through the fixtures and the management wouldn't put buckets in my apartment for me, even though they did let themselves into my apartment to see if the ceiling was leaking. I had to call my parents and have them leave their work to go to my apartment and put down buckets and towels. And then the complex refused to pay for any damage to my things or take any responsibility to the damage to their apartment, which meant a reason to keep my deposit. Then they took my whole deposit, and then claimed that I hadn't given them my 30-day notice and charged me for another month, which I paid. 2 years later they said I never paid for my last month, which I proved to them that I did, but they still sent me to collections and I ended up paying them for one month AGAIN because no apartments would rent to me while I was still in collections. They also didn't try to contact me to tell me that I owed them money or to tell me they were sending me to collections, so it was a big suprise when I couldn't get an apartment two years later because I had mysteriously been sent to collections... I still have a hard time finding landlords who will overlook that rental history blip and rent to me. I'm furious at the management. I have lived in dozens of cities and apartments and have never experienced such unprofessionalism. PLUS the other residents that lived there were DISGUSTING. I have tried a few times to contact an authority in the company that manages the building concerning the money matters that I went through, and they are rude and have hung up on me a number of times. When my sister graduates law school, you better believe I'm taking them to small claims! I live in Northwest again and have taken my dogs to the dog park across the street from Pearl Court and the residents I see coming and going look even grosser than the ones that were there when I was. I would only reccomend this living situation to a very broke person who doesn't mind cigarette smoke, is big enough to intimidate the other residents, and smart enough to out-smart the management, and handy enough to do their own repairs. Otherwise, don't rent there!
