I moved into Riverplace three years ago. I moved from out of state so I moved in without seeing it first. I was very pleased in the beginning. Great location, easy walk to work, nice management, new carpet, new fixtures, and new appliances. The only problem was the garage door broke on a regular basis and prevented you from getting in. If the garage door breaks outside of the office hours, you are stuck paying for parking.
After my second year, I was really starting to consider moving out. The garage door was still an issue, I could hear every sound my upstairs neighbor made, the washers & dryers were constantly broken, the exercise equipment was always broken, and they were going to raise my rent by $200. I told management that I was looking elsewhere and they agreed to keep my rent at the same rate if I signed for another year. At the time, the deal sounded good. Now I'm wishing that I would have gotten out of there when I had the chance.
The garage door is STILL an issue, the west elevator has been broken for 7 months because of a "leak" and they don't want to fix it, the half ass effort to find the leak has led to holes all over the building and the surrounding grounds, they have taken out MORE washers and dryers to tear holes in the wall and find the leak, the noise has gotten worse, the grounds are not maintained, the fire alarm goes off at random hours of the night when there is NO fire, and there are no carts in the garage to help you with your groceries! The worst part came when I was stepping out of my shower and I see a mouse crawling accross the floor and into the wall. I immediately called the maintenance line to report the problem and I was basically brushed off. That night, I set 5 traps and I had caught 2 mice the next day. I went to management to tell them about the mice and they played it off like it was no big deal. They sent over someone from pest control and the only thing he did was re-set traps that I had already placed. Over the next week, I caught 4 more mice. One of them was still alive when I found it. After all my reporting to management, they basically ignored the issue. I asked if I could be let out of my lease a month early and they said "no" and were unwilling to help me in any way.
I want out of this place so bad that I'm paying to break my lease. I have had to throw away a couch and a love seat because the mice had made homes in them. I started moving out the other day and found two more dead mice under my bed. The fact that the management team didn't even try to let me out of my lease, makes me very upset. I'm sure they would feel differently if they were the ones living in an apartment infested with mice.
The only thing great about this place is the location. The apartment building is falling apart and doesn't look as nice as it used to. The new management staff is incompetent, unavailable, and never willing to try and work with you. I sent an e-mail to the manager asking what I need to do when I move out and it took almost a week to get a response.
Don't move into Riverplace!
