Excellent Place to live in if you like living inside city...

I have lived in Rose Plaza Apartments, it is 8 story building, with 7 1-bedroom apartment and 1 studio on each floor. It has storage room in basement. If you own car, they have parking garage in the basement of the apartment but I am not sure if it cost extra, so you will have to call the management for more info.

Likes:

1. Walking Distance to Fred Meyer (if they are still called Fred Meyer, it's a store that sells foods, electronics, clothes, etc.)

2. Walking distance to many cool stores on 21st and 23rd street. I suggest you to look around first and you will see what I mean.

Please keep in mind, I have worked at this apartment as an assistant apartment manager and I have to warn you that there are some problems such as:

1. If you leave your window without bracing it, the wind will smash it, which would result in breaking glass. You'll end up paying for the repair cost.

2. The building was built in 50's, there was many problem with water pipes inside the building. We are always having plumbers that requires going through tenant's room to access the main pipes that run alongside the building. It's like russian roulette, maybe it will affect you, maybe it won't. However, I'm sure that the management will offer free rent for your inconvenience.

3. The rent price is not FIXED. I was trained to apprise the cost of the rent by looking at the possible renter. I was told to increase the rent by 50 to 75 dollars then try to "negotiate" it down. So, do not accept the rent price at full cost when offered by the management. Do try to "negotiate" it all the way down if possible. If you don't negotiate the price, the manager will get "kickbacks" every month for the price they want to stick you with.

4. The street corner at 22nd and Everett is a nightmare for drivers. While working as an asst. apt. manager, there are always car accident there, so be careful when trying to pass Everett on 22nd!

However, HARSCH management company is an excellent company. They will do everything to make sure that your unit is clean, fixed, and in excellent condition. I used to work with Betty who was my boss, but she no longer work there and I moved on to attend college full time and I do not know who the new manager is and if the management is still good.

Do try to get any units that face south because you will benefit from the sun if you are easily affected by the S.A.D. Try to get rooms above 4th floor and you will have good view of Portland. If you get rooms below 4th floor, you'll see other buildings.

That's all I can think of, I hope my comments will help.
